Nebraska Supplemental ESL

Select the Grade Band and Pair ESL With a Standalone Field

Nebraska offers supplemental ESL at PK–12, PK–6 and 7–12. A supplemental endorsement cannot stand alone on a teaching certificate, so the field you already hold and the grade range you seek shape the preparation decision.

  1. Identify the standalone subject or field endorsement that will accompany ESL and choose the grade band for your intended assignment.
  2. Work with the preparing institution to map the 15-semester-hour ESL minimum and 45-clock-hour practicum to that grade band.
  3. For online or out-of-state coursework, confirm that the regionally accredited institution will sign Nebraska's required documentation; NDE does not pre-approve those providers.

Ask the preparing institution to verify your progress before submitting an application. Nebraska directs program-progress questions to the institution rather than the certification office.
