Short version: we collect as little as possible, we do not sell it, and you can have it deleted.
What we collect
- Contact submissions: your name, email address, the type of person or organization you represent, optional organization, subject, message, consent record, submission time, and email-delivery status.
- School listing claims: a school representative's contact submission also records the requested listing identifier, identity-review status, and private moderation notes. A claim request never grants public editing access. We may verify the representative using independently found institution contact information before accepting corrections.
- Information you ask us to email: your email address and the selected schools, cost estimate, or visa-planning checklist needed to fulfill the request, together with its source page, language, consent record, request time, and email-delivery status.
- Analytics, if you allow it: page views and important interactions such as school profile visits, referrals, comparison and shortlist actions, directory filters, contact-form outcomes, tool use, language changes, downloads, and phone or email link clicks. We assign a random first-party session identifier so related interactions can be understood as one browser-session journey without creating an account. School interaction records can include the school identifier or slug, school name, selected comparison or shortlist set, action type, server timestamp, source page, site language, and session identifier. Google Analytics also processes ordinary browser, device, approximate location, and referral information.
- No account is required to use this site. Please do not send passport, financial, health, or other sensitive information through the contact form.
The tools on this site
The visa checker, cost calculator, and Find My Program matching tool run in your browser. We do not send the amounts, passport country, hours, matching preferences, or other values you enter to Google Analytics. If you allow analytics, we record only that a tool was used or completed, how many evidence-supported results matching returned, and, for the visa checker, the broad guidance outcome displayed. Matching preferences are not stored or sent to us. Calculator and checker inputs are stored only when you explicitly ask us to email an estimate or checklist, and are then used to fulfill that request.
If you choose a school in the cost calculator, its program identifier can appear in the shareable page address and, with analytics consent, in a school-selection event. We do not send your budget amounts as analytics event parameters. If you ask us to email your estimate, the chosen program name, source-record date, source session length, and your inputs are stored with that request so the email explains the estimate's basis.
Directory filters such as state and course type can appear in a shareable page address. Free-text school searches stay in your browser history for that tab so you can return to your results; we do not add the words you type to the page address or send them as an analytics event.
Programs selected for comparison are stored in this browser until you clear them. A comparison link includes the selected program identifiers so you can share it; it does not include your name, email address, or tool inputs. If you allow analytics, comparison and shortlist events record the selected program identifiers and the school acted on so we can understand which programs are considered together. These identifiers describe public listings, not personal information you entered.
What we never do
We do not sell or rent personal data, and we do not pass your details to schools or agents without you asking us to. No data from any previous operator of this domain has been acquired or used.
Your rights
Under GDPR (Europe), APPI (Japan) and PIPA (South Korea) you can ask us for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email privacy@applyesl.com and we will act within 30 days.
Cookies
ApplyESL uses no social-media pixels. Google Analytics loads only after you select “Allow analytics” and may then store analytics cookies on your device. Advertising personalization and Google signals are disabled. If you decline, Google Analytics does not load. Sponsored affiliate listings appear only on designated Teach English pages and may use browser storage or cookies under the provider's own practices. Your analytics choice and light or dark theme preference are stored in your browser. You can change the analytics choice from the site footer.
The contact form and requested-email forms use Cloudflare Turnstile as a strictly necessary security check. Turnstile processes browser, device, and network information to distinguish people from automated abuse.
How long we keep things
Contact submissions, saved-email requests, and their delivery records are kept until you ask us to delete them, or for two years after submission, whichever comes first. Consented first-party engagement events are retained for 13 months. An automated daily retention task removes expired records.
Other companies involved
- Typefaces are served from this site. They used to come from Google Fonts, which meant every page load sent your IP address to Google before you had asked for anything. The font files are hosted here now, so that request no longer happens.
- Cloudflare provides hosting, consented event storage, form storage, delivery queues, and abuse protection.Cloudflare receives ordinary request information and processes the information needed to store and route contact submissions and requested emails. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Resend delivers contact and requested planning emails. It receives the email address and content needed to send our notification, receipt, shortlist, estimate, or checklist. See Resend's privacy policy.
- Google Analytics measures site use after consent. Google receives the analytics information described above. We use measurement ID G-BJ02GQSBD1, disable advertising personalization and Google signals, and do not send contact names, addresses, messages, or tool input values. See Google's privacy policy.
- An affiliate provider supplies sponsored education listings on two Teach English credential guides. Loading those listings sends ordinary browser, device, network and referring-page information to the affiliate provider. If you follow or use a listing, the affiliate provider and participating education provider may process the information you choose to provide under their own privacy terms. ApplyESL does not send contact-form submissions, saved school choices, calculator inputs or visa-checker inputs to the affiliate provider.
- We use no social media pixels or session recording.
When you leave for a school's website
Links to the programs we list carry a parameter identifying ApplyESL as the source of the visit. Depending on your browser and the destination, a referring site or page address may also be sent. These referral parameters contain none of your name, email address, or tool inputs. Once you are on the school's site, its privacy policy applies.
Children
This site is written for adults choosing a course. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent us something, email us and we will delete it.
Who is responsible
The data controller is Rupe Enterprises LLC, a limited liability company formed in the State of Washington, United States, which operates ApplyESL. It is operated independently and is not a continuation of any previous operator of this domain. No student records, inquiries or personal data from any previous site have been acquired, received or used, and we would not accept them if offered.
