Use an ESL Preparation Program for Endorsement 06A
Montana adds K–12 ESL to a Class 1 or Class 2 educator license. Its posted-degree and teaching-experience shortcuts explicitly exclude ESL, so ask a preparation program how it will verify your ESL study and recommend you for the added area.
The added-endorsement route combines a program recommendation with the applicable Praxis result, a verified student-teaching portfolio, or a program-verified 3.00 coursework GPA. Confirm which evidence your program will submit for ESL.
Montana State University calls its online Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education certificate an approved ESL added-endorsement pathway. Its published plan has four three-credit courses covering instruction, literacy, assessment, and culturally responsive pedagogy. The 12-credit plan belongs to MSU's program.
Ask the provider for its current 06A recommendation process and second-language-study expectations before enrolling. After completion, submit the endorsement update in Teach Montana with the program's verification and required evidence.
