Kansas Credential Guide
English Speakers of Other Languages Endorsement Requirements in Kansas
Issued by Kansas State Department of Education.
Kansas has an add-on ESOL route for licensed teachers and an out-of-state program route. The license you hold changes which application path to use.
Official sources reviewed . Requirements can change, so confirm your route with the issuing agency before enrolling.
Kansas ESOL Test Plus
A Content Exam Alone Does Not Complete Either Route
Kansas lists two ESOL additions: a state-approved ESOL program plus the approved content exam, or its Test Plus option with approved ESOL content-specific coursework plus the exam. The state lists course combinations by institution, so a generic TESOL certificate is not enough evidence on its own.
Ask the provider to confirm its Kansas ESOL approval, program completion recommendation and official exam-score process.
Compare the provider's exact methods, assessment and practicum courses with the Kansas list for that institution, then arrange official transcripts from the registrar.
If you are already serving in an ESOL position, ask KSDE and your district whether a provisional license or waiver applies while you finish the full route.
