Idaho's Endorsement Routes
An ESL Endorsement Needs More Than a Test Score or Degree
Idaho says existing certificate holders cannot add an endorsement by taking Praxis alone. Its simpler master's-degree alternative excludes ESL. Start with an Idaho-approved preparation program unless a district or charter school is sponsoring you for a teacher-to-new-endorsement authorization.
Work with an Idaho university College of Education that offers the approved ESL program. After completing its requirements, apply for a credential revision and submit the provider's recommendation.
A hiring district or charter may request alternative authorization for a teacher assigned to a new area. This route requires documented content competency and a one-year state-approved mentoring program.
Ask the district or provider which route it will sponsor before paying for a stand-alone test or graduate degree.
