These residences are conveniently located a short distance from the Kaplan center. Homestays are also a living option for those students who want to experience the local culture as a member of a family and practice their conversational English. Students are encouraged to make their housing arrangements as early as possible due to the limited amount of space available. Private off-campus apartments are also available; however students must make their own arrangements. For more information, use the Contact Address to ask the school directly.
    • Surrounding Area
    • The Kaplan International English Center is ideally located in the heart of downtown Chicago in an area locally called “The Loop,” the city’s vibrant hub of business, world-class theater and shopping. As the third-largest city in the United States - following New York City and Los Angeles – Chicago, when combined with its suburbs and eight surrounding counties, is home to a population greater than 9 million residents. Commonly referred to as the “Second City” or the “Windy City,” Chicago has long been recognized as a financial, industrial and transportation center, in addition to its colorful mosaic of ethnic diversity. Chicago’s convenient bus and subway system – the Chicago Transit Authority, or CTA – operates the second-largest public transportation system in the United States (behind New York City) and is capable of shuttling visitors and residents to any destination in the city 24 hours a day. While exploring the city, don't forget to visit the Lincoln Park Zoo, the nation's oldest public zoo; the Art Institute of Chicago, home of the largest collection of Impressionist paintings outside of Paris; or the three of the world's tallest buildings, the Sears Tower, the Amoco Building and the John Hancock. Sports enthusiasts have no problem in finding a team to cheer for in Chicago, a city home to dedicated fans that are serious about their sports teams, including The Bulls (NBA basketball), the much-beloved Bears (NFL football), The Blackhawks (NHL hockey), The Fire (soccer) and the historic baseball teams, The Chicago Cubs and the 2005 World Series champions, The White Sox. Visitors and residents alike enjoy taking advantage of more than 29 miles of Chicago’s lakefront area along the shores of Lake Michigan, a perfect place to go running, walking, rollerblading, biking or just relaxing in the sun.

Be sure to speak with the school’s admissions staff if you have any questions.

The program is offered for all levels of instruction from Elementary to Advanced. The Vacation English Course has flexible start dates and a course length to fit busy schedules. Upon arriving at the center, each student’s English skills are assessed in the areas of listening, reading, writing and speaking to ensure proper placement into an ability level. Classes focus on helping students to communicate effectively and confidently in everyday English. Students are regularly monitored throughout the course and at the end of their session provided with a Kaplan International Certificate of Achievement.

The program’s curriculum is specifically designed for part-time students who want to improve their English skills without committing to an Intensive English Program. Courses are scheduled in the morning or the afternoon and focus on practical, everyday English. Many students opt to spend their afternoons sightseeing, visiting famous sights or participating in one of the center’s many activity programs. The Vacation English Course balances English classes with plenty of free time for students to explore the highlights of the United States.

Outside of the classroom, the school organizes plenty of activities for students to practice their English in a natural environment, including hiking and camping trips, lunch and dinner parties and sports. Students can participate in local year-round cultural activities held outside of the school, attend professional sporting events or go sightseeing.

Classroom sizes average 10 students per class with a maximum of 15 students. Every effort is made to keep classes at an ideal size for effective English language instruction. For students planning to study full-time or applying for a student visa, Kaplan International's Academic Year and Semester and Intensive English Courses are recommended.
