- About the School
- Founded in 1965, Language Studies International (LSI) has one aim: to ensure their students receive the best language learning experience. Consisting of 17 private language schools, LSI centers are located in 9 countries and have helped thousands of students from around the world significantly improve their English skills in the shortest time possible. LSI centers are located among the best-known cities in the world in order to offer students exposure to different cross-cultural ideas in vibrant urban environments and deepen their English communication skills and cultural understanding. For students wanting to study at a college or university, LSI offers academic counseling to help students during the application process. Academic counselors advise students which undergraduate courses to choose from, as well as arrange visits to universities and assist in completing university applications. Learning from native speaking instructors trained to the highest standards, students study from well-developed curriculums designed to develop their fluency and hone their skills in the areas of grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation, as well as speaking, listening, reading and writing. Additional classes focus on: film and theater, media studies, current events, politics and local culture. LSI is a proud member of AAIEP, the American Association of Intensive English Programs, and also a member of CAPLS, Canadian Association of Private Language Schools, promoting professional standards and high-quality English programs.

- LSI, Toronto provides students with the opportunity to enjoy a homestay experience. Homestays are ideal for those students who want to experience Canadian culture first-hand as a member of a family and practice their conversational English. Ryerson University on-campus dormitories are also available during the summer only. Students are encouraged to make their housing arrangements as early as possible due to the limited amount of space available. - The LSI Toronto Center is situated in the heart of the picturesque, serene neighborhood of Rosedale, one of Toronto’s most upscale residential areas. With close proximity to the subway, as well as parks and lively restaurants located across the street from the center, students enjoy studying in the quiet calm of Rosedale; however when it comes time for students to experience a livelier setting, they can easily jump on the subway and head to the downtown area. Situated on the banks Lake Ontario and home to 4.7 million residents, Toronto is considered one of the world’s most diverse cities where over 100 languages are spoken. The nature of Toronto’s multiculturalism is reflected in its wonderful mosaic of distinctive neighborhoods. Many explore the colorful Victorian houses of Kensington Market, the open-air food stalls and fruit markets of Chinatown, the top-of-the-line Italian fashion shops, cafés and restaurants of Corso Italia, and the antique shops of The Beaches. Sports enthusiasts are sure to join Toronto’s local avid fans in cheering on the Toronto Raptors (NBA basketball), the Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL hockey), and the Toronto Blue Jays (major league baseball). Toronto is home to a number of prominent landmarks, most familiarly being the CN tower – the world’s tallest freestanding structure standing at 553 meters; Yonge Street, the world's longest street; and the Skydome, the world’s first domed stadium with a fully-retractable roof. The majestic Niagara Falls is a 2-hour drive from downtown Toronto and is a popular destination among tourists from around the world. Academic Year Abroad (AYA)
- Overview
- The Academic Year Abroad (AYA) is offered throughout the year with starting dates every month. Students enrolled in the Intensive program receive 30 lessons per week. The Academic Year Abroad (AYA) is an excellent opportunity for students to take a long-term course learning English, immerse themselves in a new culture and make friends from all over the world.
The program is offered to students with various English language levels. Upon their arrival at LSI, students are given a written test and an interview to ensure their proper placement in class. Individual course plans are designed for each student based on needs, language level and the duration of the course. Students may choose to split their program evenly between multiple LSI centers in the same country.
Academic Year Abroad (AYA) is designed for students to improve English fluency in a variety of everyday situations. Every student receives regular academic counseling and assistance with study skills and university placement when necessary. Students may also choose to study Examination courses or, for those considering a career in business, they may choose to study the English for Business Course as part of the AYA curriculum. To complement their course and textbook work, students also participate in language-learning exercises such as role-playing, using authentic recorded material, and reading newspapers and magazines. In addition to Intensive English language training, students are encouraged to spend time outside of the classroom making friends, sightseeing, visiting colleges and universities or participating in one of LSI’s many activity programs.
As an added service, LSI offers academic counseling to those students planning to enroll in a college or university following their AYA studies at LSI. Academic advisors offer students important advice as to which undergraduate courses to choose and the TOEFL score requirements, as well as arrange visits to universities and assist in completing university applications. Over the years, LSI students have been placed in many prestigious universities throughout the world. Work Experience may also be arranged for AYA students under certain conditions.

- Overview
- The Intensive 30 Program is offered throughout the year in 4-, 8- and 12-week sessions. Students enrolled in the program receive 30 lessons per week. The Intensive 30 Program is ideal for those students who wish to study intensively and develop well-rounded insight in to the English language and the Canadian culture.
The program is offered at 6 levels of instruction from beginner to advanced. Upon their arrival at LSI, students are given a written test and an interview to ensure their proper placement in an ability level. At the end of their session, students are awarded a certificate of completion as proof of their language competence.
The program’s curriculum concentrates on all the skill areas students require to achieve greater fluency in a short period of time. Students attend a total of six lessons every day, Monday through Friday. The morning classes focus on improving students’ grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation, as well as concentrating to develop students’ speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. Afternoon classes draw upon the skills learned during the morning classes through fluency practice and a comprehensive review of the Canadian culture and customs. Topics of these afternoon classes may include: film and theater, media studies, current events, politics, local culture and research using the Internet.
As an added service, LSI offers academic counseling to those students planning to enroll in a college or university following their studies at LSI. Academic advisors offer students advice as to which undergraduate courses to choose and the TOEFL score requirements, as well as arrange visits to universities and assist in completing university applications. LSI students have been placed in such esteemed universities as: Canadian Tourism College and The Art Institute of Vancouver.

- Overview
- The General 20 Program is offered throughout the year in 4-, 8- and 12-week sessions. Students enrolled in the program receive 20 lessons per week. A popular program at LSI, the Standard 20 Program is ideal for those students who have more free-time and want to combine their language studies with other activities.
The program is offered at 6 levels of instruction from beginner to advanced. Upon their arrival at LSI, students are given a written test and an interview to ensure their proper placement in an ability level. At the end of their session, students are awarded a certificate of completion as proof of their language competence.
The program’s curriculum is designed for students to rapidly improve their communication skills in a variety of everyday situations. Students attend a total of four lessons every day in the morning, Monday through Friday.
