    • Overview
    • Established in 1989, the Academic Intensive English Program is designed to prepare non-native English speakers for college or graduate school in the United States. Classes are offered year-round with session start dates available five times a year. Students enrolled in the Program receive 20 hours of classroom instruction per week.

The Program offers 10 levels of English classes, from elementary (Level 1) to advanced (Level 10). Upon arrival, all students are required to take a placement test to help determine the level best-suited to their ability. The test includes two writing sections as well as sections testing listening comprehension, reading comprehension, grammar and vocabulary. Students in all levels of instruction are provided with core instruction in writing, reading, listening and speaking. Students also choose an elective from the General ESL or ESL Test Preparation programs. Electives may include: grammar, vocabulary and idioms, academic vocabulary, pronunciation, accent reduction, public speaking, understanding the business world, and iBT TOEFL preparation. All Academic Intensive English program students are provided with a variety of services, support and activities such as academic and immigration counseling, access to the university’s library, computer labs and gym

Baruch College students have many opportunities to meet with university students or members of the community to practice their English conversational skills. Many students participate in activities outside of the classroom such as field trips to museums and parks in New York City, going to Broadway shows and enjoying other exciting cultural attractions which the city offers.

Small, interactive classes are emphasized to ensure full student participation. Class sizes range from 6-20 students and average 15 students per classroom. Every effort is made to keep classes at an ideal size for effective English language instruction.

Best Choice for ESL in New York City!
Baruch is one of your best choices for ESL in
New York City. First, it is very easy to get from
