- More Details
- Housing
- ELS provides students with the opportunity to live in on-campus dormitories or enjoy a homestay experience. Students living on-campus will be close to classes, campus activities and other students – both American and international. ELS also arranges homestays for those students who want to experience American culture first-hand as a member of a family and practice their conversational English. Students are encouraged to make their housing arrangements as early as possible due to the limited amount of space available. Private off-campus apartments may also available; however students must make their own arrangements. For more information, use the Contact Address to ask the school directly.
- Surrounding Area
- The ELS Language Center is located on the campus of the University of Cincinnati, within Cincinnati’s uptown district, north of the downtown area. Cincinnati is one of the major inland cities in the United States and the third-largest city in the state of Ohio with a population of 333,000 residents. The city of Cincinnati was one of the first major towns settled in the heart of the country to rival the larger coastal cities in its size and wealth and thought of by some as the first purely American city. Cincinnati’s culture is strongly influenced by the fact that it is positioned on the border of both the Southern and Midwestern United States making many of its traditions dynamic and interesting for visitors. Like many American cities, Cincinnati was also influenced strongly by its history of European immigrants. As a busy river town, Cincinnati is famous for its beautiful riverfront parks, its very popular professional football and baseball teams, the Cincinnati Zoo and a large variety of tourist attractions such as theme parks, museums and galleries. Cincinnati is a major city in the Midwestern section of the United States and students will find it quite affordable compared to many cities and states on the east and west coasts.

I developed my mindI chose ELS Cincinnati because I've heard that it has strong teachers who can help me to improve my English skills. My biggest challenge was how to speak with American people and how to make a lot of friends. ELS Cincinnati is like the second home where someone can learn English with their friends. Actually, everyone in ELS Cincinnati is like my family. The three biggest benefits of attending ELS Cincinnati were: I made new friends, learned how to break the ice (I can talk in speaking evaluations), and I developed my mind. My teachers at ELS Cincinnati impacted me step by step. They encouraged my English skills so I can speak very fluently. Even though, sometimes, I felt stressed and that I could not concentrate in the classes, it was okay because a lot of my teachers and friends supported me. ELS Cincinnati absolutely helped me adjust to life in the US through their activities and staff presentations. It helps all the students. Right now, I'm trying to decide which university I want to attend after ELS. I am between two universities: the University of Cincinnati or Louisiana Tech University.

Like a big familyELS Cincinnati is like a big family. Teachers and advisors really care about every student, not only for the English learning, but to help students to adapt to the new culture and new life at the UC campus. Students feel comfortable and are encouraged here. Also, ELS Cincinnati holds lots of activities. I always learn new things after participating in varieties of activities. It is a perfect place with perfect teachers and advisors for me to learn English. I will start my Master's degree at a US university this year and I feel ELS Cincinnati has helped me to be prepared for it.
