  • As the only intensive English language program in the metropolitan Detroit area, the English Language Institute (ELI) of Wayne State University (WSU) specializes exclusively in teaching academic preparation skills, English communication, and cultural orientation to non-native speakers of English from all over the world.
    
    Established in 1974, the ELI is committed to assisting individuals at all levels of English proficiency to develop their English communication skills in the shortest possible time. A major focus of the ELI is to help language learners build confidence in their own language abilities as a result of their increasing English proficiency.
    
    The intensive nature of language instruction at the ELI enables language learners to focus on the language skills they need most and to make the greatest progress possible in the time they have for language learning. The intensive program provides students with the best English instruction, the newest methodologies, and the most up-to-date language-learning technology.

  • Welcome to the English Language Institute (ELI) at Wayne State University. The ELI serves as the “International Door” to all the 380+ programs offered by one the most diverse universities in the U.S., a top-ranking center for research and instruction in the country. Our mission at the ELI is to prepare English learners from all over the world for effective communication as they enter an academic program. In practice, we teach you not only communication skills in English, which is the first step, we also equip you will all the academic and cross-cultural skills you will need to succeed in your academic program. We also help you with your admission to the academic programs at Wayne State University.

  • While attending Wayne State University, students have the option to live in on-campus dormitories or off-campus residences. Students living on-campus will be close to classes, campus activities, and other students – both American and international. For students who prefer a more independent lifestyle, off-campus residences provide more privacy and offer opportunities to interact with people in the community outside the campus environment. Students are encouraged to make their housing arrangements as soon as possible due to the limited amount of space available. The school may provide information about private off-campus apartments; however, it is the students’ responsibility to make their own arrangements.   • Overview
  • The Intensive English Program involves four days of instruction per week, Monday through Thursday. Each day, students meet for two hours a day for Oral Integrated and Written Integrated classes. In the Oral Integrated class, students practice listening, speaking and pronunciation. In the Written Integrated class, they study writing and grammar. After a one-hour lunch break, students meet for two additional hours for their intensive and extensive reading classes.
    
    Students have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with their instructors during the lunch break or at the end of the day.

  • From Detroit Metropolitan Airport:
    It is the student’s responsibility to arrange travel arrangements from the airport to campus. Students can take a taxi that will cost US$ 40 and arrive on campus in approximately 20 minutes. The campus is also accessible by buses that run on a limited schedule.
