- Housing
- Choosing the right type of housing is an important decision. At the IEC, we want to help you explore your options. Some of the factors you should consider in making your housing decision include:
• What housing options are offered for your IEC program
• How long you will study at the IEC
• How close your residence is to the IEC
• Your dining preferences
• What you expect from your overall student experience
Currently, only off-campus housing is available while studying at the IEC.
One option is to stay in the IEC’s partner hotel within walking distance of the CU Boulder main campus. This housing accommodation provides single rooms with private bath and other similar amenities to on-campus dormitories. The IEC will assist you in making these arrangements.
If you decide to live in an off-campus rental (apartment or house), you must make your own arrangements. If you live in Boulder, you can easily take public transportation to the IEC (Boulder Bus Routes). If you choose to live in a neighboring city, such as Louisville, Lafayette, Longmont, or Broomfield, you can still take public transportation, but it will take more time to travel to the IEC (Metro Denver Bus Routes). - Surrounding Area
- The IEC is centrally located in Boulder, Colorado. Boulder is a safe community and the city frequently receives high rankings in art, health, well-being, quality of life, and education. Boulder is approximately 45 minutes by public transportation from Denver and 90 minutes by car from major ski resort areas.
The campus is near many city and state parks, including Rocky Mountain National Park which has some of the most spectacular scenery in the United States. Boulder averages 300 days of sunshine each year. The Boulder area also attracts high tech companies such as Google, Oracle, IBM, and Ricoh. - About the College/University
- Founded in 1876, the University of Colorado Boulder is a state governed institution with over 30,000 students. The University offers Bachelor of Arts and Science degrees in 124 majors, master’s degrees in 94 majors and doctorates in 58 areas. - Overview
- Intensive English Program
The Intensive English Program is designed for international students who are preparing to enter a university or graduate program in the U.S. It is also appropriate for working professionals and community members who want to improve their academic English. Students take writing, reading, listening and speaking, and elective courses. Classes are interactive and allow students to develop their language skills while practicing English in real situations. Class size is 15 students on average. Teachers provide students extensive feedback, which helps students to improve their English and build their confidence.
Pathway to CU
Pathway to CU is for conditionally admitted students who have not met the English language proficiency requirements for admission into an undergraduate degree program at the University of Colorado Boulder. Students who choose to enroll in Pathway to CU must successfully complete all levels of the program prior to beginning their degree program at the university.
The Intensive English and Pathway to CU programs have eight levels—four lower levels and four higher levels. The curriculum for each level is aligned with the standards of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).
Lower levels provide a foundation in English language structure, vocabulary, reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
Higher levels focus on the academic skills needed to succeed in university or graduate school. This includes more complex and sophisticated uses of English in terms of essays, interactions, presentations, and projects.
Legal English Program
The Legal English Program is an intensive program designed for international students who plan on attending law school in the U.S. as well as for practicing international lawyers seeking to refine their English language skills. Students on an F-1 or J-1 visa take the full program, while part-time and current degree students can enroll in individual courses. Students have the opportunity to attend CU Law School events, lectures, and activities. Students who have been conditionally admitted to the CU Law School and who choose to enroll in the Legal English Program must successfully complete all levels of the program prior to beginning their LLM program at the university.
The Legal English Program consists of four core courses:
• Legal Writing & Rhetoric
• Legal Oral Communication
• Understanding Legal Texts
• Law School Prep - Data

They would do whatever it takes just so that you can understand a certain topic. I think the reason why I like that is because I am from a country where teachers don't really care much about the students. So having caring teachers made me happy. Studying at the IEC didn't feel like studying at all! It was just fun. With all the activities that helped me a lot with my learning experience, and all the trips we would do. Basically, the IEC gave the opportunity to live a real learning experience, which is something that would have been impossible if I just stayed in Kuwait, so..thank you :).

I have a deeper understanding of English and America. I improved my pronunciation and grammar dramatically here. I like the diversity environment most; staff was willing to help me whenever I had any problems. It is a diverse and inclusive place which means there are so many international students.

Responsibility to learnI really appreciate the IEC and the...attendance policy. This makes students take the responsibility to learn. The teachers and students are very friendly regardless of culture differences. The IEC is a good place for international students to improve their English proficiency.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.I attended a 4-week intensive English course at the IEC. All my classes have been outstanding, and were very helpful for me in terms of academic preparation. In addition, the IEC provided me with excellent opportunities to learn American culture through class activities, as well as to make friends with international students from many countries around the world. There is a lot of information and knowledge with regards to this course, but the instructors did an excellent job of pinpointing my weak areas and encouraging me to overcome them. Boulder and the CU campus were a great place to live. I really enjoyed my hike to Audubon peak and my camping trip in West Magnolia.

Surrounded by nature in pure air, you will discover new things here. You can participate in exciting events. For example, you can hike up to the Rocky Mountain, go skiing in winter, and go camping in summer. I would recommend this school if you love to be relaxed and improve your English.
