    • Overview
    • The Full-Time Intensive English Program offers two 14-week sessions during the fall and spring, and one 9-week session during the summer starting in June. Students enrolled in the Program receive at least 20 hours of in-class instruction per week.

The Program offers 7 levels of English classes, from beginning to advanced. Upon students' arrival at the English Language Center, they are required to take English proficiency tests to help determine the level best-suited to their ability. At the end of each session, students who have completed all course requirements with at least a C average are awarded a certificate of completion. Students in all levels of instruction develop their grammar, reading, writing, conversation, and vocabulary skills in order to prepare themselves for future academic study in a university environment. Intermediate and advanced-level students have the opportunity to select elective courses to study topics such as TOEFL preparation, listening comprehension, pronunciation, lecture note-taking, presentation skills and understanding academic lectures, American culture, and writing research papers. Students in the advanced level may be granted permission to enroll in one or two RIT academic courses and earn university credit while studying at the ELC.

Small, interactive classes are emphasized to ensure full student participation. Class sizes range from 8 to 12 students per class. Every effort is made to keep classes at an ideal size for effective English language instruction.

      Evaluation of ELC Programme
This is a student who finished ELC English program. First of all, it is very good to learn English because students can have lots of classmates from foreign countries. Even though it was a little hard to speak high-advanced English with classmates because they came to study English just like me, it gave me a great brave heart to speak English fluently.

Second, teachers and tutors are very kind. They were able to give me correct answers whenever I asked them about English and anything. Especially, I would like to thank everybody who taught me in very well-organized classes.
