    • Established in 1965, INTO OSU prepares non-native English speakers with the academic abilities, language and study skills, and cultural understanding essential to succeed at an American university and to participate in American daily life. INTO OSU students use state-of-the-art computer and language laboratories to further improve their English skills. INTO OSU frequently organizes trips and activities for their students to visit beaches, shopping malls, and the nearby city of Portland.     • Greetings from Oregon! Welcome to the ApplyESL.com profile for INTO Oregon State University! I am the Director of INTO OSU, and we are all ready to help you achieve your English language learning goals. INTO OSU has caring staff and professional, experienced faculty. Our classes use active learning methods that enable each student to do his or her best. We are located in the lovely town of Corvallis, located between the Cascade Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. The university campus offers an award-winning library, high-speed computer access, a student health center, and a great recreation center for study and leisure activities. INTO OSU also offers conversation partners, field trips, and many group activities like evenings at the climbing gym and craft center and informal coffee hours. Oregon State University offers conditional admission to qualified students. In addition, students who are academically admissible, complete INTO OSU's most advanced level, and get a recommendation can use our recommendation in place of a TOEFL score for undergraduate and graduate admissions.

    • INTO OSU provides students with the opportunity to live in on-campus dormitories, off-campus residences or in homestays. Students living on-campus will be close to classes, campus activities and other students – both American and international. For students who prefer a more independent lifestyle, off-campus residences provide more privacy and offer opportunities to interact with people in the community outside the campus environment. Students are encouraged to make their housing arrangements as early as possible due to the limited amount of space available.     • Academic English Program

    • Overview
    • The Academic English Program is offered year-round with sessions beginning multiple times each year. After finishing the program, students are able to use English successfully to complete academic course work at the undergraduate and graduate level and will be ready to participate in classroom interactions as they begin degree studies at the university. Students enrolled in the Program receive 18-25 hours of classroom instruction per week. Students applying for Academic English must have a minimum of a high school diploma, but all students may be accepted regardless of their English language skill level.

      The Academic English Program offers English classes, from elementary to advanced levels. Courses in the program focus on developing the ability to use English to complete university level tasks while building knowledge of academic content and vocabulary. Upon the student's arrival, they are required to take an English proficiency test to help determine the level best-suited to their ability. Students in all levels of instruction develop their reading, writing, speaking, listening, vocabulary, grammar, and cultural skills to prepare themselves for future academic study in a university environment. Through organized classroom instruction and opportunities to engage outside of the classroom with other university and international students at the university, students rapidly build their skills and become more comfortable with English. Additionally, students can choose from a wide variety of elective classes and will have independent study time, outside cultural activities and conversation partner exchanges in order to enhance the overall study experience. Conversation partners meet informally to talk with one another and participate in social activities together. All Academic English Program students have access to university campus facilities. When students complete various levels of the program and meet academic requirements, they will be able to progress to either INTO Pathway programs to undergraduate and graduate study, direct undergraduate or direct graduate admission to the university.

      Small, interactive classes are emphasized to ensure full student participation. Class sizes range from 18 to 20 students. Every effort is made to keep classes at an ideal size for effective English language instruction.

    • Undergraduate Pathway Program (International Year One / International Direct)

    • Overview
    • The Undergraduate Pathway Program is offered year-round with sessions beginning each term. Pathways are for students who want to study for a degree in the United States but may have lower test scores, or English language proficiency and require additional academic or language support in order to succeed during their first year in university. Students enrolled in the Pathway program will take both language and academic courses, earning them university credit upon matriculation. The program is especially designed for international students who are driven to achieve their degree in the same amount of time as domestic students.

      The Undergraduate Pathway Program combines intensive language study, academic skills development and academic course work in a specific program designed to move students successfully through the first one or two semesters of a degree program. From the first day of classes, Pathway students study alongside domestic students in the same courses and receive intensive English language instruction and academic skills development courses. The student’s grades in these courses will count towards progression to the second year of undergraduate studies. Pathway program students have full access to all of the university facilities, classrooms and accommodations. All classes take place in the heart of campus. Undergraduate Pathway program students are required to live in on-campus university housing for the first part of their studies. However, students more than one year past high school graduation are not required to live on campus.

      Small, interactive classes are emphasized to ensure full student participation. Every effort is made to keep classes at an ideal size for effective English language instruction. Students receive the highest level of support during their transition to U.S. university life.

      I Love the ELI at OSU
      My ELI teachers taught me a lot. They let me speak to people in English. At first, my teachers helped me organize my vocabulary and speak out in English with whole sentences. I miss my teachers and thank them all for helping me. I hope that I will be able to go back to OSU ELI and finish levels 4,5 and 6 of the English program. Finally, I want to say, "Thank you OSU ELI! I love you!"

      Totally great!!!
      After I experienced this program at OSU, what I can conclude about this ESL program is they are sincerely mindful of the student's study environment and safety etc.
      There are various programs that even foreign students can join with regular students without any conditions. During a study abroad period what I truly realized was the most important foundation of learning other languages is understanding the country's culture!! What I want to say now is OSU has many chances to face these cultures naturally. Of course, it is depending on yourself, but in OSU case, they also help you with what you should do to be the best!!
      There are numerous countries' people. It means you can experience the world and share your ideas with international students in ESL-OSU!! It is a free chance!!
      Of course, as we already know, Oregon's nature view is perfectly great to see and feel as i can not express in words !!! You will see!! :)
      OSU, Corvalis is a safe place!! They have a service riding program called, "Safe ride" for students. It will help you be safe!!.........................

      ESL life in OSU gave me great chances and the experiences were totally great!!!! Thank you^^

      到OSU進修是個不會後悔的決定，也會是一段非常美麗的回憶。

      這邊的環境很優美,空氣很清晰,悠閒自在,大部分的外國人都很友善和熱情,這邊的台灣人說真的不多喔!因為是一個小鎮所以生活上比較沒有很多的娛樂,大多比較單調,不過這裡也是比較適合讀書的環境因為真的不比大城市有很多百貨公司可以逛街這邊頂多是幾家小店而已吧!整體來說還不錯啦!

      那兒風和日麗，風光明媚，人情溫暖，強力推薦！
      Oregon適合喜歡戶外活動的人，OSU本身是個大學城，非常適合唸書。
      要往大都市車程約一個小時可到Portland，強力推薦！

      장점
      - 코발리스라는 지역적 이점 : 전체적으로 조용하고 안전하며, 공부하는 분위기임.
      - 학교 시설의 이용 : 딕슨(체육시설),도서관,MU 등 전반적인 학교시설을 이용할 수 있는 점은 상당한 장점임
      - 비교적 적은 한국 학생 : 클래스에 1~3명 정도임
      - 야외 활동은 잘 지원되는 편임(유료)

      단점
      - 수업의 질은 강사의 재량에 따라 차이가 많이 남.
      - 수업시간 편성의 재량이 적은 편. 과정별/레벨별로 오픈되는 클래스가 적어서 원하는 시간표를 작성하기 어려웠음.
      - 스태프는 전반적으로 친절하나 돈과 관련된 업무처리는 힘든편임.
      - 스케줄 변경(과정,수업기간 등)시 환불 불가 (다른 어학교도 마찬가지)
      - 수업 참석 당시 중국, 아랍 학생이 많았고 소수의 남미,일본,한국 학생 있었음
      - 학교 제공 숙박시설은 비싼 편임, 최대한 짧게 이용하고 본인이 다른곳을 선택하는 편이 좋음

      vigoruous activity
      OSU는 특히 ELI 프로그램 학생들은 많은 활동을 할 수 있는 환경을 제공하는 것 같습니다. 다양한 프로그램으로 쉬지않고 지루하지 않게 매주를 보냈던 것 같아서 상당히 추천해 드리고 싶습니다.
      단, corvallis 도시로만 본다면 상당히 작은 도시라서 지루하게 느낄수도 있으나 학교 프로그램 측면에선 추천해 드리고 싶습니다.

      오래곤주립대학교에 대하여
      오래곤주 코발리스에 있는 오래곤 주립대학은
      다른 대학과는 달리 아주 한적한 시골에 자리잡고 있어
      공부하기 참 좋은환경 이었다.
      특별히 유흥시설이 없기 때문에
      학생들은 자연스럽게 공부에 집중할 수 있었다.
      여기엔 스태프의 친절함도 있었던 것 같다.
      어학연수를 간다면 오래곤주립대학교를 추천하고 싶다.

      잊을 수 없는 추억
      벌써 2년 전 일이라 기억이 조금은 가물가물 하지만, 저는 OSU에 대해 좋은 기억을 갖고 있고, 또 그 곳에서의 생활이 만족스러웠습니다. 처음으로 접해보는 낯선 곳에서의 생활이었지만 학교 스탭과 선생님들 모두 언제나 웃음띤 얼굴로 친절히 애정을 가지고 대해주신다는 것을 느낄 수 있었습니다.(많은 학생들이 있었을텐데도 말입니다) 그리고 중요한 것은 수업내용이 정말 알차다는 것입니다. 그 곳에서 공부했던 것이 돌아와서 많은 도움이 됐답니다!!!! 또한 거기서 만난 다른나라 학생들과 현지 학생들도 정말 착하고 좋았습니다. 특히 conversant프로그램으로 인해 OSU대학생들과 만나서 얘기 할 수 있어, 친구를 사귈 좋은 기회를 만들어 줍니다.^^

      오리건 주립대 영어 어학당
      우연히 친구 가족이 거기있어 가게 되었는데, 오리건 주립대 안의 코스라 대학생 취급을 해주는게 좋습니다. 학부생 영어권학생들과 대화파트너를 이어주는 과정이 있어 미국인 친구들을 만들 수도 있고 학교 행사, 클럽에도 참여 할 수 있습니다. 풋볼 홈경기도 무료로 관람하고 최고로 멋진 체육시설(못하는게 없음)도 마음데로 이용할 수 있습니다. 수업은 다른곳을 들어본적이 없지만, 다른곳도 거의 같을거라고 생각합니다.

      전체적으로
      한국 애들이 많지 않아 영어는 도움이 됐으나 최소한 걸어서 20-30분은 걸어가야 슈퍼가 나온다는 점이 아쉬웠다.
      스피킹 수업이 대체로 좋았다.

      Oregon State University, Engligh Language Institute.
      ELTは英語を学ぶにはよい環境だと思います。（協定大学の研修と重なると一部の授業が重なってしまうために、その授業は日本人が比較的多くなりますが）授業はレベルによりますが、大学生活で必要な能力を鍛えるものになっていると思います。ELT学生用の自習室や深夜まで開いてる図書館があり、学内では登録すればワイヤレスLAMが使用可能です。ただ郊外にあるので週末portland等へ出かけるには多少不便だと思います。

      OSUに来て
      この学校に来て，とても良い環境で英語を勉強しています。日本人も少なく，他の国の友達がたくさんできました。
      この学校に来る前は，友達が出来るかなど不安が多くありましたが，実際に来てみるとオフィスの人も寮の管理人さんも皆親切に接してくれ，とても安心できました。
      その後も，たくさんのサポートを受けることもでき，かなり充実した留学生活を送っています。
