  • Established in 1988, the Center for English as a Second Language offers intensive English language courses on the Norman campus of the University of Oklahoma. CESL prepares students for the university by focusing on English for academic purposes, teaching American culture classes, and practicing American classroom culture. Students who go to CESL are better prepared for all aspects of attending universities in the United States.

  • Housing
  • While attending the Center for English as a Second Language (CESL), students have the option to live in on-campus dormitories or off-campus residences. Students living on-campus will be close to classes, campus activities, and other students – both American and international. For students who prefer a more independent lifestyle, off-campus residences provide more privacy and offer opportunities to interact with people in the community outside the campus environment. Students are encouraged to make their housing arrangements as soon as possible due to the limited amount of space available. The school may provide information about private off-campus apartments; however, it is the students’ responsibility to make their own arrangements.   • The University of Oklahoma offers students OU Track, which allows them, with a lower English proficiency score, to complete 2 sessions of instruction at CESL, as a replacement for the standard English proficiency requirement of the university.

  • Overview
  • The Center for English as a Second Language (CESL) offers an intensive Academic English language program at the high beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels. With 20 hours per week of expertly taught language instruction, the full-time program is designed for highly motivated students who wish to learn the English language quickly. Friendly people and a beautiful campus location provide a great study environment!
    
    CESL also has a General English program for people who are living or traveling in the US and would like to study part time. General English students follow the same intensive curriculum as full-time Academic English students, with the same highly qualified instructors, but on a part-time basis.
    
    The OU Track program allows qualified students with lower IELTS/TOEFL scores to improve their language skills during one semester at CESL and then be admitted to either undergraduate or graduate degree programs. Students must meet all other admission criteria, and have an IELTS/5.5 or TOEFL/61 before beginning the program.
    
    The Graduate English Pathway program allows graduate students who meet all other OU Graduate College requirements to start their degree program while perfecting their English.
