- Housing
- ELS provides students with the opportunity to live in on-campus dormitories or enjoy a homestay experience. Students living on-campus will be close to classes, campus activities and other students – both American and international. ELS also arranges homestays for those students who want to experience American culture first-hand as a member of a family and practice their conversational English. Students are encouraged to make their housing arrangements as early as possible due to the limited amount of space available. Private off-campus apartments may also available; however students must make their own arrangements. For more information, use the Contact Address to ask the school directly.
- Surrounding Area
- The ELS Language Center on the Florida Tech campus is located in Melbourne, a safe, residential community in Brevard County, commonly known as being on the “Space Coast” of Central Florida for its close proximity to NASA and the Kennedy Space Center. Home to over 75,000 residents, Melbourne is a comfortable place to live with its picturesque, tree-lined streets filled with unique shops, street cafés, boutiques and diverse restaurants. The downtown area’s architecture is an inspired and eclectic mixture of old and new, featuring creative storefronts, alleyways and street arcades. While most of Melbourne is located on the Florida mainland, a small portion is also located on the nearby barrier island with the Indian River Lagoon separating the mainland from the island. The Sebastian Inlet cuts through the barrier island, creating a picturesque waterway connecting the Indian River Lagoon with the Atlantic Ocean. The Sebastian State Park is located on the barrier island and is a beautiful place to have a picnic, to go fishing, shrimping or clamming, to enjoy bird watching, go sailing or kayaking or enjoy an evening camping under the stars. If it is a slower pace residents seek, the pristine Atlantic Ocean and over 72 miles of uncrowded beaches are an easy 10-minute drive from downtown Melbourne. Beach goers can choose to bask in the sun at the Canaveral National Seashore Park in the north, Cocoa Beach in Central Brevard or at the Sebastian Inlet State Park at the southernmost tip of the county. The cosmopolitan city of Orlando and its countless world-famous attractions are all a little more than an hour’s drive from Melbourne where visitors can enjoy the thrill of visiting such places as Universal Studios, EPCOT Center, the Kennedy Space Center, SeaWorld Orlando and, of course, the perennially-famous Disneyworld.
