: : Surrounding Area

The main campus and ESL international campuses are located in downtown Calgary with easy access to Calgary transit, shopping, and the Calgary Public Library. It is just over an hour away to Banff National Park and the beautiful Rocky Mountains. Calgary is a 'big city' with a population of over 800,000 people but has a 'small-town' feel. The city's layout was designed to preserve the natural beauty of the two rivers that run through the Bow Valley: the Bow and the Elbow River. Both rivers have walking, jogging, rollerblading and bicycle pathways. Calgary is only an hour away from the majestic Rocky Mountains and Banff National Park. People from all over the world come to experience the mountains, both for hiking in the summer and spring, and for skiing and snowboarding in the winter. Calgary is also the host each July to 'The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth' - the Calgary Stampede. During the Stampede, Calgarians and tourists alike wear cowboy hats and boots, and celebrate with Chuckwagon races, amusement parks, fireworks, and other events across the city.
