: About the ESL Program |

Founded in 2005, the American Language Center (ALC) at Bloomfield College prepares non-native English speakers with the skills essential to communicate in English and prepare them for academic success at an American college or university. Learning from experienced teachers with advanced degrees, students study from a rigorous curriculum designed to focus on the four key areas of English language study: grammar and structure; listening and speaking; reading and writing; and American English pronunciation. Students study five days a week for four hours a day and have the option to attend classes either in the morning or during the afternoons. Students' class work is complemented outside of the classroom with free one-on-one tutoring, a state-of-the-art language lab and a conversation partner program. To further add to students' academic and cultural experience, the ALC organizes a wide range of off-campus activities for students to practice their newly-acquired English skills in a natural setting while experiencing American culture first-hand. Students also take advantage of the activities and events available on the Bloomfield College campus by watching theatre ensemble performances, seeing student exhibits at the on-campus art gallery, and listening to student-produced poetry readings.

| The school provides students with the opportunity to enjoy a homestay experience. Homestays are a beneficial living option for those students who want to experience the local culture as a member of a family and practice their conversational English. Students are encouraged to make their housing arrangements as early as possible due to the limited amount of space available. Private off-campus apartments are also available; however students must make their own arrangements. For more information, use the Contact Address to ask the school directly. |

About the College/University |

| Founded in 1868, Bloomfield College (BC) is an independent, four-year liberal arts institution that is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church. Home to more than 2,200 students from around the world, the college operates with a mission in-mind to prepare students to attain academic, personal and professional excellence in a multicultural and global society. BC students study from a challenging curriculum that focuses on the liberal arts and sciences, as well as the creative arts and technology. Professional studies are also available to encourage students to study such subjects as business administration, computer information systems, criminal justice, education, nursing and the sciences. The college is passionate in believing student learning and personal development are the primary goals of an undergraduate education. BC seeks to create a seamless learning environment in which activities outside the classroom are integrated with the instruction taking place in the classroom. As a result, the college offers more than 30 organizations in order to allow students to sing in the gospel choir, volunteer in the surrounding community with the Circle K club, appreciate different cultures and ethnicities in the various multicultural organizations, contribute to the college yearbook, "In Print," or write for the honors literary magazine, "Common Ground." BC students are avid fans of the college's sports team, The BC Deacons, and are sure to be on-hand to cheer on the teams as they play baseball, basketball, soccer, tennis, softball, volleyball and run cross-country at the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Division II level. |
