: : About the School

Founded in 1978, the English Language Center (ELC) is a group of private language schools that provide a rigorous academic curriculum to build students' communicative competence. Operating schools in some the most desirable locations in the United States, the ELC provides its students with high-quality instruction designed to meet their individual needs while allowing them to study in dynamic, exciting environments. The ELC provides free College Counseling and University Placement services for its students to help them select a college and coach them throughout the application process. As the ELC partners with a number of colleges in the United States, students have a certain advantage to use the ELC's services to apply to their desired degree program. Such advantages include conditional letters of acceptance and special TOEFL waiver agreements, as well as concurrent enrollment and valuable class auditing opportunities. In their spare time, students have opportunities to participate in activities arranged by school to enjoy different social and cultural experiences and practice their English in real-life situations. Students are also encouraged to independently explore their new city, attend professional sports games or experience some of the city's vibrant, eclectic neighborhoods. The ELC is a proud member of AAIEP, the American Association of Intensive English Programs promoting professional standards and high-quality English programs.
: : Student Countries of Origin

The ELC Los Angeles Center has hosted thousands of students from around the world. Recently, the majority of students have come to the school from Asia, including Japan (30%), Korea (10%) and Taiwan (10%). Students also come from countries in Latin America (10%), Europe (10%), the Middle East, Africa and others.
: : Faculty Qualifications

ELC instructors are highly-qualified, native speaking professionals that help their students advance through their programs quickly. Many instructors have lived and traveled abroad and have extensive training and experience teaching English to students from around the world. The personal and academic qualities of the instructors make each uniquely qualified to offer meaningful language-learning opportunities and to care deeply about their students.
: : Housing

The ELC provides students with the opportunity to enjoy a homestay experience. Homestays are ideal for those students who want to experience American culture first-hand as a member of a family and practice their conversational English. UCLA on-campus dormitories are also available during the summer only. Students are encouraged to make their housing arrangements as early as possible due to the limited amount of space available. Private off-campus apartments are also available; however students must make their own arrangements. For more information, use the Contact Address to ask the school directly.
: : Surrounding Area

The ELC Los Angeles Center is ideally located in the heart of Westwood Village, one of the safest, most attractive neighborhoods in Los Angeles best known as home to the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) campus - one of the top universities in the United States. Boasting many unique boutiques, quaint Old World architecture and charming restaurants, Westwood is also home to classic Art Deco movie theaters that are often sites of Hollywood movie premiers. The ELC Center is located minutes from such famed Los Angeles destinations as glamorous Beverly Hills, the Hollywood and the pristine Pacific Ocean beaches. Aside from being the epicenter of the American film industry, Los Angeles -the second-largest city in the country- is alive with extraordinary theater, ample music and concert venues, world-class museums, first-rate shopping, thrilling amusement parks and extensive outdoor recreation opportunities. L.A. residents are die-hard supporters of their sports teams and are forever on-hand to cheer on their teams throughout the year. The city's teams include: the Dodgers (Major League baseball), Anaheim Angels (Major League baseball), L.A. Lakers (NBA basketball), L.A. Clippers (NBA basketball) and the L.A. Kings (NHL hockey). The city is home to residents from more than 140 nations who speak over 200 different languages. The city's m駘ange of colorful ethnic neighborhoods demonstrates the cultural diversity Los Angeles is famous for. Public transportation is convenient in the Los Angeles metropolitan area with buses, subways and trains available to easily transport visitors and residents to such well-known destinations as Disneyland and Universal Studios. For weekend excursions, residents often visit the perennially-famous Las Vegas, picturesque San Francisco, the celebrated Yosemite National Park and the majestic Grand Canyon.
