: : About the ESL School

Founded in 1983, The Language Company (TLC) is a group of private language schools that has provided superior English instruction and cultural activities to more than 30,000 students from around the world. The various small-town locations of TLC schools within the picturesque American Midwest offer ideal learning environments for those students wanting to concentrate on their studies and learn in friendly, quiet and safe surroundings. The rigorous TLC curriculum is designed to significantly improve students' English skills in the shortest time possible and prepare them for academic study at an American college or university, enhance their professional credentials or simply to enjoy learning a new language. An academic placement service is available free-of-charge for those students who want to attend an American college or university after completing their studies at TLC. Many colleges and universities waive the TOEFL requirement for TLC graduates. Outside of the classroom, special events and activities are organized by TLC staff to encourage students to practice their English while learning about American culture and making new friends. In the past, favorite activities include: horseback riding, visiting zoos and parks, sightseeing and shopping in the local area, visiting amusement and water parks, and attending seasonal festivals. Students are also encouraged to independently explore the area's vibrant neighborhoods or take day trips to see the surrounding areas. The Language Company is accredited by ACCET, the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education & Training, and is a proud member of AAIEP, the American Association of Intensive English Programs promoting professional standards and high-quality English programs.
: : Student Countries of Origin

The TLC Center at Northeastern State University has hosted thousands of students from around the world. Recently, the majority of students have come to the school from Asia, including Japan (30%), Korea (15%), Taiwan (5%) and Thailand. Students are also from countries in Latin America (5%), Europe (5%), Middle East (5%), Africa and others.

: : Faculty Qualifications

TLC instructors are highly-qualified, native speaking professionals that help their students advance through their programs quickly. Many instructors have lived and traveled abroad and have extensive training and experience teaching English to students from around the world. The personal and academic qualities of TLC instructors make each uniquely qualified to offer meaningful language-learning opportunities and to care deeply about their students.
: : Housing

The school provides students with the opportunity to live in on-campus dormitories or enjoy a homestay experience. Students living on-campus will be close to classes, campus activities and other students - both American and international. The school also arranges homestays for those students who want to experience American culture first-hand as a member of a family and practice their conversational English. Students are encouraged to make their housing arrangements as early as possible due to the limited amount of space available. Private, furnished off-campus apartments may also be available; the school will help students make the necessary arrangements. For more information, use the Contact Address to ask the school directly.
: : Surrounding Area

The Tahlequah Language Institute sits on the lovely 200-acre Northeastern State University campus in the heart of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, a township exuding a comfortable, small-town atmosphere. Home to over 14,500 residents, Tahlequah is the historic capital of the Native American Indians' Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma. Nestled at the foot of the majestic Ozark Mountains in eastern Oklahoma, Tahlequah is surrounded by stunning, scenic natural beauty. To the east of town lies the Illinois River - a popular spot to go canoeing, fishing, kayaking or camping and hiking along the riverbanks. The area surrounding the town provides stunning views of rolling hills filled with pines, oaks and dogwood trees that burst with magnificent color throughout the year. Tulsa - the second-largest city in Oklahoma - is an hour drive from downtown Tahlequah. With a total population of more than 930,000 in its metropolitan area, Tulsa is a unique city with architecture hailing from the 1920s and 1930s during the city's heyday in the oil industry; Tulsa is especially renowned for its striking Art Deco landmarks. As a city that was a hotbed of jazz and blues in the 1920s, Tulsa is home to a beautiful performing arts center that houses five theaters and seven musical and dramatic companies, including the Tulsa Opera and the Tulsa Ballet Theater. As a culturally-diverse city, Tulsa hosts a variety of city-wide events year-round, including the Tulsa State Fair in the fall, the festive Christmas Parade of Lights during the winter, MayFest in May during the spring, and the Gatesway Balloon and Juneteeth Blues and Jazz Festivals during the summer.
: : About the College/University

Founded in 1851, as the member of The Oklahoma State System of Higher Education, Northeastern State University (NSU) is the oldest institution of higher learning in Oklahoma, as well as the second-oldest institution of higher learning west of the Mississippi River. Recently named the "Best Regional University" by Oklahoma Living Magazine, NSU offers bachelors, masters and doctoral degree programs among its three campuses: Tahlequah (main campus); Broken Arrow; and Muskogee. Students study from 69 undergraduate degree programs, 18 programs at the graduate-level and 13 pre-professional programs among the five academic colleges: Business & Technology; Education; Liberal Arts; Optometry; and Science and Health Professions. Home to more than 8,500 undergraduates including students from 44 countries, NSU hosts the largest enrollment of Native American students of any public institution of higher education. Outside of the classroom, students are active in the campus community by joining one of the many student-run organizations. Competing at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II level, NSU's athletic teams garner strong support from the campus community. With the men's teams known as "The Redmen" and women's teams as "The Lady Reds," NSU students are always on-hand to cheer on the football, softball, soccer, golf and tennis teams, and especially the men's basketball team - 2003 Division II champions.
