: : About the School

Founded in 1938, KAPLAN ASPECT is a group of prestigious private language schools that have helped millions of students from around the world significantly improve their English skills in the shortest time possible and prepare them for academic study at an American college or university. The Centers are located among thirteen of the best-known cities in North America - including Vancouver, Canada - in order to offer independent students exposure to different cross-cultural ideas in vibrant urban environments that will deepen their English communication skills and cultural understanding. For those students interested in studying at an American college or university, KAPLAN ASPECT operates three of its centers on college campuses and offers students full access to campus facilities including the library, sports facilities and the computer center. Learning from native speaking instructors, students study from well-developed curriculums designed to develop their fluency and hone their skills in the areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing, as well as pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar. To help students achieve their individual academic goals, KAPLAN ASPECT centers also offer a variety of workshops to complement students' coursework, including: Vocabulary Development, Speech and Pronunciation, Writing, Accent Reduction and TOEFL Skills Preparation. KAPLAN ASPECT is the educational subsidiary of the major newspaper company, The Washington Post, and a sister division of the major magazine, Newsweek. KAPLAN ASPECT is also a proud member of AAIEP, the American Association of Intensive English Programs promoting professional standards and high-quality English programs.
: : Student Countries of Origin

The KAPLAN ASPECT Center in Chicago has hosted thousands of students from around the world. Recently, the majority of students have come to the school from Asia, including Korea (24%), Japan (4%) and Taiwan (2%). Students additionally come from Latin America (21%), Europe (17%), the Middle East and other countries worldwide.
: : Faculty Qualifications

The instructors are highly-qualified, native speaking professionals. Many instructors have lived and traveled abroad and have extensive training and experience teaching English to students from around the world. The personal and academic qualities of instructors make each uniquely qualified to offer meaningful language-learning opportunities and to care deeply about their students.
: : Housing

KAPLAN ASPECT provides students with the opportunity to live in off-campus residences or enjoy a homestay experience. For students who prefer a more independent lifestyle, off-campus residences provide more privacy and offer opportunities to interact with people in the community outside the campus environment. These residences are conveniently located a short distance from the Kaplan center. Homestays are also a living option for those students who want to experience the local culture as a member of a family and practice their conversational English. Students are encouraged to make their housing arrangements as early as possible due to the limited amount of space available. Private off-campus apartments are also available; however students must make their own arrangements. For more information, use the Contact Address to ask the school directly.
: : Surrounding Area

The KAPLAN ASPECT Center is ideally located in the heart of downtown Chicago in an area locally called "The Loop," the city's vibrant hub of business, world-class theater and shopping. As the third-largest city in the United States - following New York City and Los Angeles - Chicago, when combined with its suburbs and eight surrounding counties, is home to a population greater than 9 million residents. Commonly referred to as the "Second City" or the "Windy City," Chicago has long been recognized as a financial, industrial and transportation center, in addition to its colorful mosaic of ethnic diversity. Chicago's convenient bus and subway system - the Chicago Transit Authority, or CTA - operates the second-largest public transportation system in the United States (behind New York City) and is capable of shuttling visitors and residents to any destination in the city 24 hours a day. While exploring the city, don't forget to visit the Lincoln Park Zoo, the nation's oldest public zoo; the Art Institute of Chicago, home of the largest collection of Impressionist paintings outside of Paris; or the three of the world's tallest buildings, the Sears Tower, the Amoco Building and the John Hancock. Sports enthusiasts have no problem in finding a team to cheer for in Chicago, a city home to dedicated fans that are serious about their sports teams, including The Bulls (NBA basketball), the much-beloved Bears (NFL football), The Blackhawks (NHL hockey), The Fire (soccer) and the historic baseball teams, The Chicago Cubs and the 2005 World Series champions, The White Sox. Visitors and residents alike enjoy taking advantage of more than 29 miles of Chicago's lakefront area along the shores of Lake Michigan, a perfect place to go running, walking, rollerblading, biking or just relaxing in the sun.
