: : About the ESL School

Founded in 1961, ELS Language Centers is a group of private language schools that help millions of students from more than 140 countries significantly improve their English skills in the shortest time possible and prepare them for academic study at an American college or university. With more than 40 ELS locations available across 25 U.S. states, students are exposed to different cross-cultural ideas and influences that will deepen their English communication skills and cultural understanding. Learning from native speaking instructors, students study from a well-developed curriculum designed to enhance their fluency and accuracy and hone their skills in the areas of structure/speaking, conversation, and reading/writing. Students also select from a wide variety of elective classes to study topics pertinent to their individual interests, including TOEFL Preparation, Business English, Pronunciation, U.S. Culture, and Listening & Note Taking. As an added feature, more than 550 American colleges and universities accept the ELS Certification of English in place of the TOEFL in order to admit students to their undergraduate degree programs. ELS Language Centers is a proud member of AAIEP, the American Association of Intensive English Programs promoting professional standards and high-quality English programs.
: : Credit Courses

Students may earn up to 12 university credits to be applied to their undergraduate degree at College of Mount Saint Vincent upon completion of the Intensive English program.
: : Student Countries of Origin

The ELS Center at the College of Mount Saint Vincent has hosted thousands of students from more than 40 countries around the world. Recently, the majority of students have come to ELS from Asia, including Korea (22%), Japan (19%), and Taiwan (18%). Students also come from countries in Europe (28%), Latin America (6%), and other countries worldwide.
: : Faculty Qualifications

ELS instructors are highly-qualified, native speaking professionals. Many instructors have lived and traveled abroad and have extensive training and experience teaching English to students from around the world. The personal and academic qualities of ELS instructors make each uniquely qualified to offer meaningful language-learning opportunities and to care deeply about their students.
: : Housing

ELS provides students with the opportunity to live in on-campus dormitories or enjoy a homestay experience. Students living on-campus will be close to classes, campus activities and other students - both American and international. ELS also arranges homestays for those students who want to experience American culture first-hand as a member of a family and practice their conversational English. Students are encouraged to make their housing arrangements as early as possible due to the limited amount of space available. Private off-campus apartments may also available; however students must make their own arrangements. For more information, use the Contact Address to ask the school directly.
: : Surrounding Area

The ELS Language Center on the College of Mount Saint Vincent campus is situated on the rolling lawns and wooded fields of Riverdale, New York, an upscale residential neighborhood that sits on the Hudson River and is a quick 25-minute train ride from the heart of downtown New York City. : : About the College/University

First established as an academy in 1847 by the Sisters of Charity of New York, the College of Mount Saint Vincent (CMSV) expanded into a four-year, private liberal arts college in 1910 and later, in 1974, became a coeducational institution. Home to 1,280 undergraduate and 170 graduate students representing 11 states and 12 nations from around the world, the 70-acre verdant CMSV campus and its 71 faculty members offers students an intellectually challenging curriculum among 27 academic majors, as well as among its pre-professional and teacher education certification programs. The College also offers three graduate degree programs: the Master of Science degree in allied health studies, nursing, and teacher education. Outside of the classroom, students are actively involved in a wide variety of social, cultural and professional clubs and organizations, ranging from the CMSV chorus and theater troupes, the biweekly student newspaper, "MounTimes," and the WMSV campus radio station. As a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division 3 member, CMSV boasts thirteen men's and women's athletic teams, playing basketball, volleyball, cross-country, soccer, tennis, softball, swimming, and track and field. Intramural sports teams are seen playing games across campus and CMSV students are encouraged to join in.
