Founded in 1961, ELS Language Centers is a group of private language schools that help millions of students from more than 140 countries significantly improve their English skills in the shortest time possible and prepare them for academic study at an American college or university. With more than 40 ELS locations available across 25 U.S. states, students are exposed to different cross-cultural ideas and influences that will deepen their English communication skills and cultural understanding. Learning from native speaking instructors, students study from a well-developed curriculum designed to enhance their fluency and accuracy and hone their skills in the areas of structure/speaking, conversation, and reading/writing. Students also select from a wide variety of elective classes to study topics pertinent to their individual interests, including TOEFL Preparation, Business English, Pronunciation, U.S. Culture, and Listening & Note Taking. As an added feature, more than 550 American colleges and universities accept the ELS Certification of English in place of the TOEFL in order to admit students to their undergraduate degree programs. ELS Language Centers is a proud member of AAIEP, the American Association of Intensive English Programs promoting professional standards and high-quality English programs.

Faculty Qualifications |

| ELS instructors are highly-qualified, native speaking professionals. Many instructors have lived and traveled abroad and have extensive training and experience teaching English to students from around the world. The personal and academic qualities of ELS instructors make each uniquely qualified to offer meaningful language-learning opportunities and to care deeply about their students. |

| ELS provides students with the opportunity to live in an off-campus residence or enjoy a homestay experience. For students who prefer a more independent lifestyle, off-campus residences provide more privacy and offer opportunities to interact with people in the community outside the campus environment. ELS also arranges homestays for those students who want to experience American culture first-hand as a member of a family and practice their conversational English. Students are encouraged to make their housing arrangements as early as possible due to the limited amount of space available. Private off-campus apartments may also available; however students must make their own arrangements. For more information, use the Contact Address to ask the school directly. |

| ELS San Francisco Center is located in the safe, affluent neighborhood of Pacific Heights with convenient public transportation available nearby to take students to such colorful neighborhoods as Nob Hill, Union Square, and Fisherman's Wharf. Home to more than 770,000 residents, San Francisco, aptly named the "City by the Bay" and "America's Favorite City," is best known for its friendliness and its intense spirit of individualism. Celebrated for its beauty, mild climate and sophistication, San Francisco's hilly streets provide gorgeous views of the San Francisco Bay and its famous bridges, including the world-renowned Golden Gate Bridge. Home to a variety of cultures and ethnicities, San Francisco encourages both visitors and residents alike to explore diverse neighborhoods such as bustling Chinatown, the Italian quarter of North Beach, and vibrant Haight-Ashbury, the heart of the hippie movement during the 1960s. San Francisco's many entertainment and cultural attractions appeals to all tastes and preferences, from visiting the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, watching the San Francisco Ballet and enjoying the San Francisco Symphony to cheering on San Francisco's professional football, baseball, hockey, and basketball teams. A trip across the Golden Gate Bridge will take you to beautiful Muir Woods National Monument, the "best tree-lovers monument" in the world, the famous wine country of Napa and Sonoma, and picturesque beaches and hiking trails. For outstanding camping, hiking and climbing excursions, spectacular Yosemite National Park is only a 3 1/2 hour drive from San Francisco. |
