Founded in 1961, ELS Language Centers is a group of private language schools that help millions of students from more than 140 countries significantly improve their English skills in the shortest time possible and prepare them for academic study at an American college or university. With more than 40 ELS locations available across 25 U.S. states, students are exposed to different cross-cultural ideas and influences that will deepen their English communication skills and cultural understanding. Learning from native speaking instructors, students study from a well-developed curriculum designed to enhance their fluency and accuracy and hone their skills in the areas of structure/speaking, conversation, and reading/writing. Students also select from a wide variety of elective classes to study topics pertinent to their individual interests, including TOEFL Preparation, Business English, Pronunciation, U.S. Culture, and Listening & Note Taking. As an added feature, more than 550 American colleges and universities accept the ELS Certification of English in place of the TOEFL in order to admit students to their undergraduate degree programs. ELS Language Centers is a proud member of AAIEP, the American Association of Intensive English Programs promoting professional standards and high-quality English programs.

| ELS provides students with the opportunity to live in an off-campus residence or enjoy a homestay experience. For students who prefer a more independent lifestyle, off-campus residences provide more privacy and offer opportunities to interact with people in the community outside the campus environment. These residences are conveniently located a 15-minute walk from the school. ELS also arranges homestays for those students who want to experience American culture first-hand as a member of a family and practice their conversational English. Students are encouraged to make their housing arrangements as early as possible due to the limited amount of space available. Private off-campus apartments may also available; however students must make their own arrangements. For more information, use the Contact Address to ask the school directly. |

| ELS Santa Barbara Center is located in the idyllic community of Santa Barbara, a city regarded as one of the safest and most beautiful in the United States. Situated in a stunning natural setting sitting between the Pacific Ocean and Santa Ynez Mountains, Santa Barbara is often referred to as the "American Riviera" due to its comfortable climate, wide sandy beaches, and enduring charm. The area's summer daytime temperatures pleasantly average 16-25ーC degrees while evenings hover around 12-18ーC degrees. Winters are just as comfortable with daytime temperatures ranging 17-19ーC degrees and nighttime lowering to 10-15ーC degrees. Santa Barbara's setting is perfectly accommodating to outdoor enthusiasts with activities available year-round, including swimming, fishing and windsurfing off the countless Pacific Ocean beaches, whale-watching among the Channel Islands, and hiking and horseback riding through the Los Padres National Forest. In addition to its natural beauty, Santa Barbara is also rich in entertainment and culture with its lovely Spanish-style architecture providing a picturesque background for the area's concert and theater performances, year-round street festivals, eclectic restaurants, and a lively nightlife. Downtown Santa Barbara is conveniently located 144 km north of Los Angeles, the film capital of the world that is home to great theater, music, museums, and professional sports teams, as well as world-famous Disneyland, Universal Studios, and, of course, Hollywood. |
