Intensive English Program
: : About the ESL Program

Established in 1974, the American English and Culture Program (AECP) at Arizona State University (ASU) is designed to help students improve their English language proficiency for personal, academic, and professional growth, as well as to introduce them to the unique American culture. The AECP curriculum provides students with the language and cultural skills necessary to enroll into an academic program at ASU or at other equally prestigious American colleges or universities. Outside of the classroom, AECP students have various opportunities to participate in events and activities to practice their English language skills and experience American culture, including the Welcome reception, the conversation partners program, ASU student-run clubs, AECP sports teams, and different social gatherings. AECP students receive ASU identification cards and gain full access to university facilities, including the libraries, the Student Recreation Complex and the Student Health Center. The ASU ID card also provides students with discounts to campus events, sports, and entertainment. The AECP is a proud member of AAIEP, the American Association of Intensive English Programs promoting professional standards and high-quality English programs.
: : Credit Courses

Advanced-level AECP students who have demonstrated academic ability are eligible to enroll part-time in credit classes at Arizona State University while completing English language instruction.
: : Student Countries of Origin

The AECP hosts more than 200 students representing approximately 60 countries worldwide each year. Recently, students have come to the AECP from Korea (25%), Japan (20%), Taiwan (18%), Mexico (10%), the Middle East (5%), South America (5%), and other nations (17%).
: : Faculty Qualifications

All AECP instructors are highly-qualified, professionally trained instructors that hold Master's degrees in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) or in similarly related fields. AECP instructors have extensive training and experience teaching students from around the world, both in the United States and abroad. The personal and academic qualities of all AECP instructors make each uniquely qualified to offer meaningful language-learning opportunities and to be sympathetic to the issues important to their students.
: : Housing

While attending the AECP, students have the opportunity to live in on-campus dormitories, off-campus apartments, or enjoy a homestay experience. Students living on-campus will be close to classes, campus activities, and other students - both American and international. For students who prefer a more independent lifestyle, off-campus residences provides more privacy. The AECP also has a homestay program for students who want to experience American culture as a member of a family and practice their English. Students are encouraged to make their housing arrangements as soon as possible due to the limited amount of space available. The AECP program may introduce private off-campus apartments; however it is the students' responsibility to make their own arrangements. For more information, use the Contact Address to ask the school directly.
