Intensive English Program
: : About the ESL Program

Established in 1981, the Center for English Language Learning (CELL) is a serious language program designed to help students quickly acquire essential English skills. Each session, 25-50 students from around the world come to CELL to receive outstanding English language instruction and individual attention from both CELL instructors and the CELL advising staff. The purpose of the CELL curriculum is to provide students with the academic and language skills essential to succeed in an American university, a business environment or for personal growth. CELL students gain full access to Maryville College's campus facilities and can enjoy using the sports facilities, campus libraries, the student health clinic and computer labs with Internet access. A regular program of social activities is also arranged for CELL students and can include movies nights, shopping trips, hikes in the Great Smoky Mountains, whitewater rafting, and sightseeing. CELL is a proud member of AAIEP, the American Associate of Intensive English Programs promoting professional standards and high-quality English programs.
: : Credit Courses

After completing the CELL program, all qualified CELL students who are admitted to Maryville College are given up to 9 credit hours towards a Bachelor's degree.
: : Student Countries of Origin

The Center for English Language Learning hosts 25-50 students from around the world each session. Recently, students have come to the CELL program from Japan (25%), Korea (25%), South America (25%), Taiwan/Thailand (15%), and Europe/Africa (10%).
: : Faculty Qualifications

CELL instructors are highly-qualified, experienced professionals. Instructors hold advanced degrees in linguistics, language teaching or in related fields. Most CELL instructors have lived and traveled abroad, and have extensive training and experience teaching English to students from around the world. The personal and academic qualities of CELL instructors make each uniquely qualified to offer meaningful language-learning opportunities and to care deeply about their students.
: : Housing

While attending the CELL program, most students choose to live in on-campus dormitories during their first session of study. Students living on-campus will be close to classes, campus activities, and other students - both American and international. Homestays are also available however, the CELL program encourages new students to live on-campus for at least one session in order to familiarize themselves with the College and to make new friends. The CELL program may introduce private off-campus apartments, however it is the students' responsibility to make their own arrangements. For more information, use the Contact Address to ask the school directly.

Maryville College's 350-acre campus is ideally located in the quiet and safe town of Maryville, Tennessee.
