: About the ESL Program |

In 1982, the Intensive English Language Center (IELC) at the University of Nevada, Reno was established to enable international students to integrate into the mainstream of higher education. The IELC has three main goals: to teach the necessary academic, language and study skills to succeed at a university level, to introduce students to American culture and university life, and to help students make an effective transition from English as a Second Language to university-level studies. IELC students gain full access to the University's campus facilities and can enjoy using the University libraries, the Writing Center for free tutoring, the Women's Resource Center, the student health center, computer labs with Internet access and the campus sports facilities including indoor sports courts, swimming pools, a running track and gymnasiums. The IELC arranges a regular program of activities for its students and can include camping and trips to Lake Tahoe, bus tours throughout Reno, roller-skating and ice skating, local excursions to historic sites, skiing, movie nights, student receptions, dances and banquets. The IELC is a proud member of AAIEP, the American Association of Intensive English Programs promoting professional standards and high-quality English programs.

| The school assists students to arrange their housing and provides students with the option to live in dormitories/on-campus apartments or off-campus residences. Dormitories are within walking distance to class and offer a great environment to interact with other students on campus. For students who prefer a more independent lifestyle, off-campus residences provide more privacy and offer opportunities to interact with people in the community outside the campus environment. Students are encouraged to arrange their housing as early as possible due to limited amount of space available. For more information, use the Contact Address to ask the school directly. |
