: About the ESL Program |

The University English as a Second Language (UESL) Program provides its students challenging language learning opportunities both inside and outside of the classroom. Whether it is to prepare students for admission to American colleges or universities, to improve English language skills or to further one's professional career, students at UESL will receive high quality, caring instruction from professional English instructors. Students who meet all of CWU's undergraduate requirements except the TOEFL score can be admitted conditionally to the University as an undergraduate student. In order to be fully admitted, students have two options: Complete UESL's Level 5 with a minimum of a B+ in all classes and receive the Program's recommendation; or receive a score of 525 on the computer-based TOEFL exam. Students are encouraged to take part in many interesting trips organized by the UESL Program. In the past, students' favorite trips included visiting cosmopolitan Seattle, American Indian reservations, the nearby mountains for hiking and skiing, and the Columbia River for sightseeing. Students have full access to CWU's campus facilities and can enjoy using the University's well-equipped computer laboratories and recreational facilities such as an indoor swimming pool and tennis courts. The UESL Program is a proud member of AAIEP, the American Association of Intensive English Programs promoting professional standards and high-quality English programs.

Faculty Qualifications |

| At the UESL Program, all language instructors hold at least a master's degree in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL). The personal and academic qualities and years of teaching experience among the UESL instructors make each uniquely qualified to offer meaningful language-learning opportunities to their students. All instructors have lived and traveled abroad and are sympathetic to the needs of their students to help them adjust to a new culture. |

| While attending UESL, students have the opportunity to experience living in a university dormitory. Students living in on-campus dormitories will be close to classes, campus activities, and other students - both American and international. Students who want to live in on-campus apartments must be at least 20 years old. Apartments have more privacy for those students who prefer a more independent lifestyle. It is best to arrange housing as early as possible due to the limited amount of space available. For more information, use the Contact Address to ask the school directly. |

| With a population of 15,000 people, Ellensburg is a safe, accessible town located in the heart of Washington State. Surrounded by the Cascade and Stuart Mountains, Ellensburg offers its residents more than 300 days of sunshine, four distinct seasons and less than 10 inches of rain and snow a year. Ellensburg is an ideal location for people who enjoy the outdoors with the nearby mountains and the Yakima and Columbia rivers. There are 100 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails, fly-fishing and river rafting on the Yakima River, water skiing and boating on the Columbia River, stunning rock climbing opportunities in nearby Vantage, horseback riding through Manastash Canyon and excellent skiing in the winter time in the mountains surrounding Ellensburg. The historic downtown area features dozens of unique stores, coffee shops and restaurants, visual and performing arts events and the famous annual Ellensburg Rodeo. If you want to experience an active urban atmosphere, the exciting city of Seattle is only a 2-hour bus or car drive away. |

A Message from School |

Hello from the Pacific Northwest! Welcome to the UESL Program at Central Washington University on ApplyESL.com. As Director of the UESL Program since 1990, I have seen hundreds of successful students come to our program and achieve their academic, professional and personal goals. I hope you will be one of these students in the future. Our students receive excellent instruction and personalized attention from teachers with master's degrees and more than 10 years of professional experience. Two of the most interesting UESL classes are "Speak Naturally," where students write and act in movies, and "Volunteering," where students interact with different people in the community. As part of our program, UESL helps students receive Conditional Undergraduate Admission to Central Washington University. Outside of the classroom, students will enjoy living in Ellensburg, Washington, a small town with Western hospitality and a beautiful historic downtown area situated two hours from Seattle. On behalf of everyone here at UESL, we hope you will join us!
