Founded in 1980, International Programs on the campus of the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), offers high-quality, practical English instruction which empowers its students to more effectively communicate as well develop cross-cultural awareness. Faculty members are devoted to assisting students in achieving their academic and professional goals through a variety of teaching techniques and modern learning technologies. During the fall, winter, and spring quarters, ELP students meet with American college students or community members as conversation partners to discuss and share cultural experiences. ELP students have full access to the all of UCSB's learning and recreational facilities including computer laboratories with high-speed Internet and e-mail access, the full-scale Davidson Library with over 2.2 million volumes, and the UCSB Recreation Center with swimming pools, basketball, tennis, and beach volleyball courts, as well as fitness equipment and gymnasiums.

| School arranges homestay and on-campus dormitory/apartment for its students. Students who choose the homestay option will live together with carefully selected host families, with whom they will have plentiful opportunities to interact in English while directly experiencing the American culture. Students living in on-campus dormitories will be close to classes, campus activities, and other students - both American and international. It is best to arrange housing as early as possible due to the limited amount of space available. For more information use the Contact Address to ask the school directly. |

| Santa Barbara is known as one of the safest and most beautiful cities in the U.S. Located in a beautiful natural setting between the Pacific Ocean and Santa Ynez Mountains, Santa Barbara is often called the "American Riviera" for its comfortable climate, wide sandy beaches, and timeless charm. Summer temperatures average 16-25 degrees C in the daytime and 12 - 18 degrees C in the evening. Winters are just as comfortable with daytime temperatures from 17 -1 9 degrees Celcius and nighttime 10 - 15 degrees Celsius. Students will find the setting of Santa Barbara to be very accommodating to outdoor recreational activities including swimming, hiking, fishing, as well as jet skiing, whale-watching, windsurfing, horseback riding, and others. In additional to its natural beauty, Santa Barbara is also rich in culture with its Spanish-style architecture, many museums, concerts, gardens, theatres, trendy restaurants, festivals, and active nightlife. Directly across from UCSB International Programs is a big shopping center with many restaurants and theaters. Students will find traveling around Santa Barbara to be very convenient with a free bus station located immediately in front of the International Programs building. Students can also travel to nearby Los Angeles for the world-famous Disneyland and Universal Studios, Hollywood the movie capitol of the world, or San Diego with famous attractions such as the San Diego Zoo, Sea World Aquarium, and "Legoland" Amusement Park. |
