: About the ESL Program |

The English Language Program (ELP) was established in 1986 to provide language preparation for students wanting to enter and succeed at Kansas State University or at other equally prestigious American colleges or universities. The ELP also provides cultural and academic orientation, as well as bridge courses to ensure students' successful transition into their degree programs. Students also choose to study at the ELP to enhance their English skills for professional purposes or for their own personal enrichment. The ELP serves as an advocate for international students at KSU, recognizing their many contributions to the campus' educational and cultural environment. ELP students gain full access to all KSU facilities and can enjoy using the campus library with Internet access, the student recreation center with an indoor Olympic-sized indoor pool, the International Student Center, and the student health care facility. The ELP is a proud member of UCIEP, a U.S. consortium of University and College Intensive English Programs known for its high professional standards and quality English language instruction.

| Students earn university credit from all ELP courses. ELP graduates may apply up to 15 credit hours towards their Bachelor's degree. |

Student Countries of Origin |

Students from more than 80 different countries around the world have come to the ELP to study English because of its well-established international reputation. Recently, students have come to the ELP from Asia (54%), followed by Latin America (11%), the Middle East (10%), Europe (9%), and other countries (9%).

Faculty Qualifications |

| ELP instructors are talented, experienced professionals that hold at least a Master's degree in English, Teaching English as a Second Language or a in related field. ELP instructors have extensive experience teaching university-level intensive English programs both in the United States, as well as abroad. As a result of their experience, ELP instructors are sensitive to the needs of their students and offer assistance in helping them adapt to the American culture. |

| While attending the ELP, students have the opportunity to live on-campus in university dormitories. Students living on-campus will be close to classes, campus activities, and other students - both American and international. The ELP office provides students with assistance to make their on-campus housing arrangements through the KSU Housing Office. Students are encouraged to arrange housing as early as possible due to the limited amount of space available. The ELP may introduce private off-campus apartments, however it is the students' responsibility to make their own arrangements. For more information, use the Contact Address to ask the school directly. |

| The 668-acre K-State campus is located in Manhattan, Kansas, a friendly, safe, clean university community that is home to 45,000 people. Nestled in the scenic Flint Hills of northeastern Kansas, Manhattan, nicknamed "The Little Apple," is known for the friendliness of its people and its stunning natural environment. Manhattan and its surrounding area has much to offer in the way of outdoor recreation and entertainment, including Tuttle Creek Lake with 15,000 acres of boating, water-skiing, fishing and public hunting land; the Konza Prairie tallgrass preserve; Marianna Beach Art Museum; the historic Aggieville shopping district; and a vibrant Arts in the Park series. Visitors and residents alike enjoy visiting the American Zoo and Aquarium, while golf enthusiasts can choose to play the 18-hole public golf course, the public 9-hole executive course, or Manhattan's private golf course. While studying in Kansas, students experience four distinct seasons and the typical continental climate with large changes in temperature between winter and summer. Manhattan is located an hour from the State Capitol, Topeka, and two hours west from the excitement of historic Kansas City. |
