: About the ESL Program |

Established in 1975, the Center for English Language and Orientation Programs (CELOP) provides outstanding English language instruction to over 400 students from around the world each semester. The CELOP curriculum is designed to enable students to attain their maximum learning potential while receiving a high degree of personalized attention from professional and experienced CELOP instructors. While attending CELOP, students study a particular area of the English language by selecting a concentration. CELOP students truly experience life at an American university by gaining full access to all Boston University facilities including 27 libraries, multimedia computer labs with Internet access, and the campus athletic center. CELOP students are encouraged to get involved in one of the University's 400 student-run sports or cultural clubs, join fellow CELOP classmates in weekly book club meetings or participate in one of many CELOP's trips around Boston. CELOP is a proud member of UCIEP, a U.S. consortium of University and College Intensive English Programs known for its high professional standards and quality English language instruction.

Faculty Qualifications |

| CELOP instructors are highly-qualified, experienced professionals who are all Boston University faculty members. All instructors hold graduate degrees and have extensive experience teaching English to international students. Many CELOP instructors are internationally recognized ESL textbook authors, educational conference speakers and are regularly consulted for their expertise in the ESL field. |

| All full-time CELOP students are guaranteed on-campus housing if they apply for it. Students living in on-campus dormitories will be close to classes, campus activities, and other students - both American and international. CELOP may provide information about homestay options and private off-campus apartments, however, it is the students' responsibility to make their own arrangements. | The Boston University campus is situated in the heart of Boston, a city widely considered as one of the most desirable cities to live in the United States. Internationally recognized as the educational capital of the United States, Boston is home to more than 60 colleges and universities, creating an atmosphere rich with artistic, social and intellectual opportunities. Outside of the classroom, CELOP students can explore America's early history by walking the Freedom Trail, attend a performance at the Boston Ballet, cheer on the Red Sox, Boston's professional baseball team at Fenway Park, shop along elegant Newbury Street or simply relax in the Public Garden. There are many opportunities for weekend trips along the East Coast, where students can go sightseeing in New York, feast on lobster in Maine, hike New Hampshire's White Mountains, or ski the slopes of Vermont. All of these destinations are an easy drive or bus ride from the BU campus. |
