Intensive 30 Program
Standard 20 Program

The Standard 20 Program is offered throughout the year in 4-, 8- and 12-week sessions. Students enrolled in the program receive 20 lessons of classroom instruction per week. A popular program at LSI, the Standard 20 Program is ideal for those students who have more free-time and want to combine their language studies with other activities.

The program is offered at 6 levels of instruction from beginner to advanced. Upon their arrival at LSI, students are given a written test and an interview to ensure their proper placement in an ability level. At the end of their session, students are awarded a certificate of completion as proof of their language competence.

The program's curriculum is designed for students to rapidly improve their communication skills in a variety of everyday situations. Students attend a total of four lessons every day in the morning, Monday through Friday. Two classes focus on improving students' grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation while the additional two classes concentrate on developing students' speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. To complement their course and textbook work, students also participate in language-learning exercises such as role-plays, using authentic recorded material, and reading newspapers and magazines. Many students opt to spend their afternoons sightseeing, visiting colleges and universities or participating in one of LSI's many activity programs.

As an added service, LSI offers academic counseling to those students planning to enroll in a college or university following their studies at LSI. Academic advisors offer students advice as to which undergraduate courses to choose and the TOEFL score requirements, as well as arrange visits to universities and assist in completing university applications. LSI students have been placed in such esteemed universities as: San Francisco State University, Art Institute of California, Golden Gate University and Notre Dame de Nemour University.

Classroom sizes average 10 students per class with a maximum of 14 students. Every effort is made to keep classes at an ideal size for effective English language instruction.
