The English as a Second Language (ESL) Program offers two 15-weeks sessions during the fall and spring semesters, and one 5-week summer session each year. Students receive 18-22 hours of in-class instruction per week, in addition to language laboratory and tutorial instruction.
The Program offers 3 levels of English classes, from low intermediate to advanced. The curriculum is designed to encourage students to build skills in the areas of speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, and vocabulary, as well as learn more about American culture within an exciting academic context. Students who successfully complete the Program's advanced level fulfill North Park University's undergraduate foreign language requirement and may be admitted to the University without a TOEFL score. Students are encouraged to participate in activities outside of the classroom to help practice their English including the many cultural groups such as the International Student Association, Korean Association, Latin-American Student Association, Asian-American Association, Scandinavian Association, along with many other student clubs and organizations.
Students also have the opportunity to meet with North Park University students to practice their English conversational skills. The Conversation Partners program is a popular, successful program among students and has created long-lasting friendships.
Small, interactive classes are emphasized. Class sizes range from 6 to 12 students per class. Every effort is made to keep classes at an ideal size for effective English language instruction. |
