Intensive Program
Super Intensive Program
International Business Communication Program

The Intensive Program offers six 7-week sessions per year. Students receive 20 hours of in-class instruction per week and practice the fundamentals of speaking, listening, reading and writing. Out-of-the classroom activities and assignments are regular additions to Intensive Program classes to practice students' language skills and allow students to learn more about life in the United States.

The Intensive Program offers 8 levels of English classes, from beginning to advanced. During the first three days of each session, students take several language proficiency tests to help determine the level best-suited to their ability. Students are evaluated by their instructors at the end of each 7-week session and are awarded certificates upon successfully completing all their courses.

The beginning-level curriculum focuses primarily on speaking, listening, reading and writing. Students will also participate in many activities outside of class to help practice their English. Students in the intermediate level are assigned to one of three integrated skills core classes. Additionally, students choose two elective classes to study areas such as Academic Reading and Writing, International Markets, Issues in Business, Pronunciation Practice or TOEFL Preparation. Students in the advanced level can choose all of their courses and can also combine their studies with credit courses in the College of General Studies or the Wharton Evening Division if they meet all admission requirements. Tuition to attend credit courses is higher than the regular ELP tuition.

In January and September of each year, students are given the unique opportunity to be matched with students at the University who are studying foreign languages. These conversation partners meet once or twice a week, spending half the time speaking in English and the other half speaking the native language of the Intensive Program student. The Conversation Partners Program is a popular, successful program among students and has created long-lasting friendships.

Small, interactive classes are emphasized. Class sizes range from 8 to 17 students per class. Every effort is made to keep classes at an ideal size for effective English language instruction.
