The American Communication and Culture Program is offered in 3-week sessions. Students enrolled in the program receive 20 hours of classroom instruction each week.
The program's objective is to improve students' oral communication and conversational skills. Students receive intensive instruction that is designed to develop their four basic skill areas of speaking, writing, reading, and listening while simultaneously participating in a highly-interactive classroom. Elective courses are available to meet students' personal interests and may include: Conversation Strategies and Practice, Current Events, Popular Culture in TV/Film, Business English, and Pronunciation Practice. Students complement their newly-acquired English skills by participating in weekly field trips arranged by SAL; in the past, trips have included excursions to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk, the beautiful coastal cities of Monterey and Carmel, the Tech Museum, and Alcatraz Island in San Francisco.
Class sizes generally range from 5 to 15 students per classroom. Every effort is made to keep classes at an ideal size for effective English language instruction and for students to receive individual attention from their teachers. |
