The Intensive English Language Program offers two 15-week sessions in the fall and spring, one 8-week session in the summer. Students enrolled in the Program receive 22 hours of classroom and language laboratory instruction each week.
The Program offers 5 levels of instruction, from beginning to advanced. At the beginning of orientation, students are required to take a written and oral placement examination to help determine the level best-suited to their ability.
The Program's curriculum is designed to develop students' listening, reading, writing, and oral communication skills, as well as deepen students' understanding of American culture and life. In addition to attending their core English classes, students have the opportunity to select elective courses to meet their individual needs and interests. Topics include but are not limited to pronunciation, computer and library skills, vocabulary development, American culture, American Institutions, and English through film, song, or literature. In addition to attending their regular ELP classes, high intermediate and advanced-level students may audit university classes after receiving approval from teachers. At the end of each semester, students are given the Institutional TOEFL test.
Class sizes generally range from 6 to 18 per class. Every effort is made to keep classes at an ideal size for effective English language instruction. |
