Academic English Studies follows the Lewis & Clark semester calendar, with two 16-week sessions per year during the fall and winter seasons. AES also offers a 12-week intensive summer semester and a short 6-week program during the summer. Students enrolled in the Program receive 20 hours of in-class instruction per week and also participate in computer, reading, and audio-visual laboratory activities.
The AES curriculum offers 4 levels of full-time instruction including a level for academic transition to the undergraduate program. Students in the advanced levels may audit an undergraduate course with consent of their instructors. AES courses focus on an integration of language skills and cover a variety of subjects. Students can take ESL content-based courses in areas such as business, computers, science, media, drama, and library research skills.
Small, interactive classes are emphasized to ensure full student participation. Class sizes range from 6 to 10 students per class. Every effort is made to keep classes at an ideal size for effective English language instruction. |
