The Intensive English Program offers six 7-week sessions per year. Students enrolled in the Program receive a minimum of 20 hours of in-class instruction per week to develop the academic and language skills essential to succeed at an American university.
The Program offers 7 levels of English classes, from beginning to advanced. At the beginning of each session, students take an English proficiency test to help determine the level best-suited to their ability. Students in the beginning through intermediate levels (Levels 1 to 5) use audio-visual, written materials and classroom interaction, in addition to the computer and language laboratories, to develop their listening, speaking, reading, writing, and grammar skills. Upper-level students (Levels 6 and 7) study a minimum of four hours per day, including two hours in a core course and two to three hours attending elective classes. Level 6 students attend core classes to focus on academic reading and writing while Level 7 students attend core classes to study texts realistically used in American universities. Level 6 and 7 students additionally select elective courses designed to meet their specific interests and needs. Students have the opportunity to study areas such as advanced grammar, advanced pronunciation, business English, test preparation (TOEFL, TOEIC, GMAT, SAT, GRE), computer skills, communication, literature or film.
Small, interactive classes are emphasized to ensure full student participation. Class sizes range from 10 to 15 students per class. Every effort is made to keep classes at an ideal size for effective English language instruction. |
