The American Conversational English Program is a 3-week program beginning in July every summer. Students enrolled in the Program receive 20 hours of in-class instruction per week to develop their ability to use English accurately and effectively in the real world.
The Program offers 6 levels of English classes, from beginning to advanced. At the beginning of each session, students take an English proficiency test to help determine the level best-suited to their ability. In the morning, students in all levels of instruction attend small, core classes to practice their speaking and listening skills with other students in their same ability level. In the afternoon, students select and attend a wide range of elective classes to listen and discuss about topics of interest in a relaxed environment. Students can choose from classes such as the Pronunciation Workshop, Current Events Discussion, Business Listening and Speaking, The American Congress and Presidency, and Cultural Geography.
Outside of the classroom, students are encouraged to attend the many extracurricular activities, field trips and social gatherings organized by the Program in order to practice their spoken language skills and meet other students and people from around the world. While attending the Program, students have the opportunity to meet a wide variety of interesting people in the Washington, D.C. area from businessmen and other college students to professionals and vacationing families.
Small, interactive classes are emphasized to ensure full student participation. Class sizes range from 10 to 15 students with an average of 12 students per class. Every effort is made to keep classes at an ideal size for effective English language instruction. |
