The American Language and Culture Program is a 4-week program beginning in January every year. Students enrolled in the Program receive 20 hours of in-class instruction per week, including weekly field trips to significant historic and cultural sites such as Mount Vernon (the home of George Washington), the United States Capitol Building, art and history museums, and cruises along the beautiful Potomac River. The Program focuses on improving students' English listening and speaking skills while concurrently introducing the cultural values that are characteristic of the United States.
The Program offers 3 levels of English instruction, from low-intermediate to upper-intermediate. At the beginning of each session, students take an English proficiency test to help determine the level best-suited to their ability. Morning classes at all levels of instruction focus on improving students' listening and speaking skills, while afternoon classes concentrate on studying cross-cultural communication and current events through class assignments, individual projects, and field trips throughout the Washington, D.C. area. Students in the upper-intermediate level attend an additional class in American cultural values while students in the low-intermediate level attend a class focusing on improving grammar and writing skills.
Small, interactive classes are emphasized to ensure full student participation. An average of 10 students are assigned to each class. Every effort is made to keep classes at an ideal size for effective English language instruction. |
