The Intensive English Program operates on a semester system, offering two 15-week terms in the fall and spring and one 10-week term during the summer. Students enrolled in the Program receive 20 hours of in-class instruction per week.
The Program offers 6 levels of English classes, from high-beginning to advanced. At the beginning of each term, students take an English proficiency test to help determine the level best-suited to their ability. Students in all levels of instruction practice the fundamentals of reading, writing, listening and speaking as well as develop their oral communication skills through focused exercises and assignments. Students additionally select elective courses to study areas such as American pronunciation, TOEFL grammar, developing computer skills, business English, and studying American culture. Free workshops and TOEFL preparation sessions are also available to students to provide an extra opportunity to improve their knowledge of language and culture. At the end of each term, outstanding students who have studied hard and earned good grades are awarded an official ELI certificate.
Small, interactive classes are emphasized to ensure full student participation. Class sizes have a maximum of 15 students with an average of 12 to 13 students per class. Every effort is made to keep classes at an ideal size for effective English language instruction. |
