The GLOBE Program is designed to meet the needs of both prospective and pre-MBA students as well as business professionals. To study at this program, students must have a university degree and possess at least high-intermediate English skills. The Program offers four 11-week sessions and eight 6-week sessions throughout the year. Students enrolled in the GLOBE Program receive 18-24 hours of in-class instruction per week. Certificates are awarded for successful completion of each full or half term.
Upon arrival, GLOBE students will be tested and must place into ELC Levels 4-6 in both speaking and writing. Students will then be placed into the appropriate writing class according to their test results. These classes focus on reading, essay writing, advanced academic writing skills and academic strategies for graduate-level coursework. GLOBE students also attend The Language of Business Information, an integrated skills course focusing on key vocabulary and concepts related to areas such as marketing, finance, international business, and human resources. In this course, students use case studies and current business news from authentic sources, and visit local businesses. Students also select a Special Topic course to study areas such as academics, culture, business, language skills, or test preparation topics. Additional elective classes in pronunciation, grammar and conversation are available to students free of charge.
During each session, GLOBE students have the opportunity to attend lectures at Drexel University's LeBow College of Business. For prospective MBA students, workshops are offered on topics such as selecting an MBA program, writing an application essay, or preparing for an interview and arrangements can be made for students to observe an MBA class. Outside of the classroom, GLOBE students can meet international visitors and local residents at networking receptions sponsored by the International Visitors Council of Philadelphia. GLOBE students are also encouraged to participate in the trips, tours and other weekly activities organized by the ELC at discounted rates. These may include recreational or cultural events, or visits to nearby destinations like Washington, D.C., New York City, and Atlantic City.
Students who continue their studies more than one term can apply for the Allison Rose Fellowship, a scholarship which provides $1,000 tuition remission in return for clerical work at the ELC and leadership of student activities.
