Housing
ELS provides students with the opportunity to live in on-campus dormitories or enjoy a homestay experience. Students living on-campus will be close to classes, campus activities and other students – both American and international. ELS also arranges homestays for those students who want to experience American culture as a member of a family and practice their conversational English. Students are encouraged to make their housing arrangements as early as possible due to the limited amount of space available. Private off-campus apartments are also available; however students must make their own arrangements. For more information, use the Contact Address to ask the school directly.
Surrounding Area
Located in the heart of the Willamette Valley between the Cascade and the Coast Range Mountains, the ELS on the CU campus ideally sits in a charming residential community that is a 25-minute bus ride from downtown Portland, Oregon. Recognized as North America’s “Best Big City” by Money magazine, Portland is fondly called home by 1.9 million residents and boasts a vibrant scene of arts, sports, and ethnic and cultural diversity complemented by a stunning natural environment and an appealingly mild climate. Embellished with 37,000 acres of lush parks, 35 theater and dance troupes, 33 music associations, over 55 art galleries and museums, and more than 1,000 lively restaurants, Portland offers its visitors and residents alike with an endless source of attractions to see, sample and savor year-round. Outdoor enthusiasts will be pleased to know that Portland was named one of “The 10 Greatest Places to Live” by Outside magazine. Nearby 11,235-foot Mount Hood offers four ski resorts and interestingly, North America’s longest ski season (including 90 summer days) while the Cascade Mountains offers ample opportunities to go hiking, camping and, among its surrounding lakes, fishing. Downtown Portland is an hour’s drive from the mountains, one and a half hours from the Pacific Ocean, and a 290 km drive from the international, cosmopolitan city of Seattle.

2009/3/13 2 of 3 people found the following review helpful.
