- University of Maryland부설 어학원 Maryland English Institute (이하 MEI)는 1980년에 설립되었으며 매년 세계각국에서부터 500명이상의 어학연수생들이 대학진학을 위한 영어와 생활영어 실력향상을 위해 MEI을 찾고 있습니다. MEI의 교과과정은 각 학생의 학습능력에 맞춘 지도와 최적의 학습환경의 제공과 학생 개개인의 어학력 향상과 대학 영어실력 향상을 목표로 만들어 졌습니다. 또한 MEI 학생중에 짧은 기간안에 수업을 마치고가 희망하는 학생에게는 미국식 발음연습, 문법과 문장교정연습, 토의와 발표등의 대학수업 준비반 등의 추가 수업을 권하고 있습니다. MEI는 일반영어 프로그램 이외에도 대학진학 준비 프로그램 제공과 문화이벤트 개최등의 폭넓은 분야에서의 국제교류와 영어교육을 실천하고 있을 뿐만 아니라 대학진학을 희망하는 학생에게는 대학진로 상담도 하고 있습니다. 교실수업과 함께 문화활동이나 메릴랜드주의 명소방문등, 각종 야외활동을 통하여 영어를 사용할 기회를 제공하고 미국 대학생활과 사회생활, 미국문화 생활도 더불어 익힐 수 있는 학습환경을 조성하고 있습니다.

As an MEI student, some of your classes will meet in our fully equipped multimedia center. Outside of the classroom, you will take part in many communicative and experiential activities, such as group projects, service-learning assignments, field trips, and international coffee hours. - MEI학생은 교내기숙사, 교외기숙사(아파트)를 이용할 수 있습니다. 교내기숙사는 수업 강의실과 가깝고 기숙사를 이용하고 있는 학생들과 친목을 다질 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 학교가 주최하는 각종 행사에 참가하기 쉬운 이점이 있습니다. 각자의 사생활을 위해 독립된 생활 공간을 선호하는 학생들은 교외기숙사(아파트)를 이용할 수 있습니다. 학교 숙박시설 이용 희망시에는 희망 학생 스스로 학교 숙박시설 담당국(Housing Office)로 연락하여 예약해야 합니다. 숙발시설 이용 공간은 제한되어 있으므로 가능한 빨리 예약하는 것이 바람직 합니다. 학교에 따라서는 교외 민간숙박 시설정보를 제공하기도 하므로 자세한 정보는 학교 연락처 정보를 이용하여 학교로 직접 연락해 주시기 바랍니다.

- University of Maryland는 컬리지 파크(Collage Park)교외에 위치하며 미국의 수도인 워싱턴 D.C로부터 가까운 거리에 위치해 있습니다. 컬리지 파크 는 24,500명 이상의 주민이 살고 있으며 또한 컬리지 파크에는 수많은 레스토랑과 문화시설 그리고 톡특한 상점들이 있으며 대학 야구시즌에는 학생과 컬리지 파크 주민 모두 NCAA에 소속된 University of Maryland의 야구팀 Terrapins를 응원하기 위해 컬리지 파크 전체가 활기가 넘칩니다. 학생들이 컬리지 파크밖으로 여행을 떠날 때에는 대학 캠퍼스내에 위치한 매트로레일역과 MARC기차역등이 있으므로 편하게 볼티모어등의 각 지역에 방문 할 수 있고 캠퍼스내 기차역을 통해 기차를 타고 20분을 가면 워싱턴 D.C로 갈 수 있고 차를 타고 40분정도를 가면 맛있는 식사와 계요리, 유흥거리등으로 유명한 볼티모어 항구 안으로 들어갈 수 있습니다. 또한 멀지 않은 곳에 위치한 Allegheny 산맥을 방문하여 대서양에서 헤엄칠 수 있고 아트 갤러리와 박물관을 찾아 다닐 수 있으며 아름다운 하이킹로와 캠핑지등을 가 볼 수 있는 등의 헤아릴 수 없을 정도의 문화적, 자연적 흥미거리들이 메릴랜드를 찾는 모든 이들을 즐겁게 해주고 있습니다.

- University of Maryland는 1862년에 설립되었으며 학교 크기는 1,500에이커 입니다. 지리적 위치로는 위싱턴 D.C으로 부터는 불과 몇분 거리 안에 있으며 메린랜드 수도인 아나폴리스와 볼티모어하고는 30분 거리입니다. University of Maryland는 뛰어난 학사 과정 프로그램을 제공하는 학교로 인정받고 있으며 U.S. News & World Report에서 미국공립 대학교 중 18위로 선정되었습니다. 공원같은 캠퍼스를 가진 University of Maryland에는 대학생과 대학원생을 합쳐 약 3,4000명의 학생과 2,000이 넘는 교직원이 있습니다. 집중 영어 프로그램 (Intensive Program)
- 프로그램 설명
- MEI는 12주로 구성된 가을, 봄에 시작하는 두 학기와 6주로 구성된 여름학기를 제공합니다. 학생들은 주당 23시간의 수업을 받습니다. EMI는 다섯 단계의 영어수업으로 나누어져 있습니다. 매학기 학생들의 영어 실력측정과 반배정을 위한 시험을 실시 합니다. MEI의 수업은 쓰기와 말하기, 듣기, 문법, 어휘 실력 향상에 중점을 두고 있으며 기본 등록금이외에 추가금을 지불시 미국식 발음 연습반, 문법과 문장 수정(편집)연습반, 대학 영어반등의 추가 선택과목을 수강할 수 있습니다. 영어력 향상은 하루 아침에 이루어 질 수 없으며 많은 시간과 노력를 필요하는 과정이므로 MEI는 학생들에게 모든 수업의 성실한 참여를 요구하고 있습니다. 총 수업 일수중 10%이상 결석한 학생은 낙제처리가 되며 다음 학기에 MEI에 등록할 수 없습니다. 수업을 충실히 참석하고 무시히 프로그램 과정을 마치면 MEI는 프로그램을 마친 학생에게 수료증을 발급합니다.
매년 가을과 봄 학기에 중급과 상급 학생들은 미국 대학생 컨버세이션 파트너(회화연습 파트너)를 배정 받을 수 있습니다. 컨버세이션 파트너와의 스케줄은 파트너의 사정에 맞춰 정하게 됩니다. 컨버세이션 파트너와는 편히 대화를 할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 각종 행사에 같이 참여하여 자연스런 영어회화를 익힐 수 있습니다.

1. The teacher you have determines a lot of your experience and it's better not to change so often.
2. I wanted to study the TOEFL test more.
3. Studying at any school abroad is a big investment for your future.
The school has many advantages.
Teachers are very kind and teach the best they can.
Most students get together like a family.

At that time, students were classified into 4 groups by the proficiency test results. Each group was made of 10 students and the top group which I was in, was made up of 7 Koreans, 1 Russian and 2 Saudi Arabians. The class was as expected and if you participate in it actively, you can get a lot from the class. I also attended a Computer Science class by asking professor to do so and it was also great experience. The circumstance was good, if you live near the Univ, you can hang out with native English speaking friends. You can also use all of the facilities at the university such as the gym.
