- University of Miami의 집중영어프로그램(Intensive English Program - IEP)은 1951년 이후 국제학생들에게 영어를 가르쳐왔습니다. IEP는 수준 높은 강의와 교육적 시설을 공식적으로 인정 받아 1967년에 UCIEP의 회원이 되었으며, 1988년에는 AAIEP에 가입하였습니다. 65년이 넘는 세월 동안 IEP의 주된 목표는 성공적인 학업에 필요한 학습방법과 영어실력향상을 도모하는 강의를 제공함으로써 국제학생들이 미국에 있는 대학에 입학할 수 있게끔 준비해 주는 것 입니다. IEP의 교과과정은 듣기, 말하기, 읽기, 쓰기 등 언어교육의 필수적인 부분들을 모두 종합하여 하나의 완전한 프로그램으로 만들어져 있습니다. IEP의 강사들은 학생들이 영어를 좀 더 잘 이해할 수 있도록 새롭게 창조된 수업 활동에 적극적으로 참여하도록 유도하는 긍정적이며 학구적인 학습환경을 제공합니다. 또한 IEP는 국제학생들이 미국 문화와 대학생활에 잘 적응할 수 있도록 도와줍니다. 언어실력을 향상시키는 것과 더불어 IEP는 IEP의 모든 학생들이 서로간의 다른 문화를 이해할 수 있도록 돕고 있습니다.

- IEP학생은 여름 학기에만 학교 숙박시설를 이용할 수 있습니다. 교내 기숙사는 수업 강의실과 가깝고 기숙사를 이용하고 있는 학생들과 친목을 다질 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 학교가 주최하는 각종 행사에 참가하기 쉬운 이점이 있습니다. 여름학기 기숙사 이용 희망시에는 희망학생 스스로 학교 숙박시설 담당국(Housing Office)로 연락하여 예약해야하며 또한 숙박시설 이용공간은 제한 되어 있으므로 가능한 빨리 예약하는 것이 바람직 합니다. 학교 숙박시설외의 민간 숙박시설 이용희망시에는 희망학생 스스로 예약 또는 각종 계약을 해야합니다. 학교에 따라서는 교외 민간숙박시설 정보를 제공하기도 하므로 자세한 정보는 학교 연락처 정보를 이용하여 학교로 직접 연락해 주시기 바랍니다.

- IEP의 학생들은 플로리다만의 생활방식을 경험하게 될 것입니다. 아열대성기후로 평균 기온이 20도인 플로리다는 야외활동을 위한 이상적인 기후조건을 갖고 있습니다. IEP는 University of Miami의 260에어커에 달하는 Coral Gables 캠퍼스에 위치하고 있습니다. - 프로그램 설명
- 집중 영어 프로그램은 14주로 구성되었으며, 주당 20~25시간의 수업을 제공합니다. 학생들은 학기 시작 시에 있는 필기시험과 인터뷰 결과에 따라서 학생들의 실력에 적합한 반으로 배정됩니다.
교과과정은 학업과 학습요령에 기본을 두고 의사소통 능력을 향상시키기 위해 초점을 맞춰져 있습니다. 모든 학생들은 영어학습의 기본인 읽기, 쓰기, 대화, 말하기를 향상시키기 위한 종합수업을 수강합니다. 이러한 종합수업에 더하여, 학생들은 비즈니스 영어, 시사영어 등 자신의 기호에 따라 특정 주제에 대한 수업을 수강하게 됩니다.

There are many factors that make students enjoy the study here. First of all, the weather in Miami is moderate most times of the year. In addition, Miami buildings have fantastic architectural style, and its streets are wide, clean and beautiful. Finally, the most important factor is the availability of many universities led by the University of Miami, who is a pioneer university worldwide. It ranks high in the world's universities ranking. In addition, it has a gorgeous campus and provides excellent services to students. Certainly, its English Language Institute (IEP) has proven to have a high level of teaching English. And from my experience it is the right place for foreign students to master English language.

I had been studying in DC before I came to Miami, but I didn't improve a lot, so after 6 months, I took vacation and I came to Miami to see about the school, and have a fun time, and I found the UMIEP. After that, I visited UM, and I asked 5 people about the IPE. I didn't know them, but all of them told me the IEP is very good and you will improve fast.
