About the ESL Program
The American Language Institute (ALI) was established in 1945 as part of New York University's School of Continuing and Professional Studies. The main purpose of the ALI is to provide non-native English speakers with the academic abilities and language skills essential to succeed either at an American university or in a professional environment. The ALI curriculum provides their students with a comprehensive program of English language instruction, evaluation and advisement while concurrently orientating them to the United States’ multi-cultural environment. Outside of the classroom, students are encouraged to participate in the many field trips and activities organized by the ALI including attending theater, ballet or concert performances and visiting various points of interest in the New York City area. The ALI is a proud member of UCIEP, a U.S. consortium of University and College Intensive English Programs known for its high professional standards and quality English language instruction.

ALI instructors are the authors of more than 50 recent texts in language education.
Housing
While attending the ALI, students can experience living on-campus in university dormitories. Students living on-campus will be close to classes, campus activities and other students – both American and international. Students are encouraged to arrange housing as early as possible due to the limited amount of space available. Although the university housing is safe and conveniently located, many students prefer to rent or share off-campus apartments. The ALI may introduce private off-campus apartments, however it is the students’ responsibility to make their own arrangements. For more information, use the Contact Address to ask the school directly.

Intensive Course in American English APPLYAbout This CourseThe Intensive Course in American English and Orientation offers two 14-week sessions in the fall and spring and two 6-week sessions during the summer season to students who wish to learn English effectively and accurately in the shortest possible time. Students enrolled in the Program receive 22 hours of in-class instruction per week and practice the fundamentals of speaking, listening, reading and writing.
The Program offers 6 levels of English classes, from beginning to advanced. There are nine ranks of instruction over the 6 levels: Level 1 (beginning, Rank 10), Level 2 (low intermediate, Ranks 20-30), Level 3 (intermediate to high intermediate, Ranks 40-60), Level 4 (low advanced, Rank 70), Level 5 (advanced, Rank 80) and Level 6 (advanced, Rank 90). At the beginning of each session, students take an English proficiency test to help determine the level best-suited to their ability. The test assesses students' grammar, vocabulary, listening comprehension, writing and speaking skills. Additionally, students have a personal interview with an ALI faculty member for counseling purposes and to select appropriate courses.
In addition to attending the Program's classes, students are also introduced to the United States' language, life and culture outside of the classroom by attending theater, ballet and concert performances, as well as visiting American families in the surrounding community. Several times during the semester, the ALI organizes field trips for its students to explore the New York City area including the United Nations, the New York Stock Exchange, the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, and New York's world-class museums.
Small, interactive classes are emphasized to ensure full student participation. Class sizes range from 13 to 17 students per class. Every effort is made to keep classes at an ideal size for effective English language instruction.Course DataCLASS SIZE: 13 - 17 students CLASS LEVELS: 6 levels COURSE LENGTH: 6,12,14 weeks MINIMUM AGE: 18 years old REQUIREMENT: N/A VISA INFORMATION: I-20 issued upon request HOUSING: Dormitory or On-Campus Apartment Dates20126 WEEKS: 5/14 - 6/28 6/25 - 8/9 12 WEEKS: 5/14 - 8/9 14 WEEKS: 9/4 - 12/6 FeesAPPLICATION FEE US$ 150TUITION FEE (2012) 6 WEEKS US$ 2,510 12 WEEKS US$ 4,000 14 WEEKS US$ 4,820 HOUSING

2009/3/6 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful.NYU

2010/3/1 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful.

2009/3/6 21 of 21 people found the following review helpful.55歳からの留学 小学生からのあこがれのニューヨーク。
